{"id":101,"date":"2002-10-11T12:55:05","date_gmt":"2002-10-11T20:55:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/glenandpaula.com\/archives\/2002\/10\/11\/stanford-what-an-amazing-campus\/"},"modified":"2002-10-11T12:55:05","modified_gmt":"2002-10-11T20:55:05","slug":"stanford-what-an-amazing-campus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/glenandpaula.com\/wordpress\/archives\/2002\/10\/11\/stanford-what-an-amazing-campus","title":{"rendered":"Stanford: What An Amazing Campus!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Yes\u00adter\u00adday Paula and I had the chance to get togeth\u00ader with <a href=\"http:\/\/lawschool.stanford.edu\/faculty\/strnad\/\">Stan\u00adford Law Prof  Jeff Str\u00adnad<\/a> (who\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.usms.org\/swimgold\/tt\/aa\/std52zz.htm\">quite a swim\u00admer<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Any\u00adway, we were walk\u00ading through White Plaza on our way to meet him, when all of a sud\u00adden we were con\u00adfront\u00aded by a clip\u00adboard-wield\u00ading grad\u00adu\u00adate stu\u00addent ask\u00ading us if we want\u00aded to \u2018talk to a robot.\u2019 We looked around and saw a Dalek-like con\u00adstruct sit\u00adting out\u00adside, appar\u00adent\u00adly engrossed in con\u00adver\u00adsa\u00adtion with a stu\u00addent. I was extremem\u00adly inter\u00adest\u00aded, but we were almost late for our meet\u00ading with Jeff and so we passed.<\/p>\n<p>We had a great lunch at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stanford.edu\/group\/sufc\/\">Stan\u00adford Fac\u00adul\u00adty Club<\/a>, which has great food a cheap prices (but you have to be a mem\u00adber or the guest of a mem\u00adber to eat there).<\/p>\n<p>As we were leav\u00ading, Jeff men\u00adtioned that the guy at the table next to us was a Nobel lau\u00adre\u00adate in the field of eco\u00adnom\u00adics. I did\u00adn\u2019t catch the name, but I fig\u00adured it would be easy to go online and fig\u00adure out which prof at Stan\u00adford had won a Nobel in the eco\u00adnom\u00adic sciences\u2013I did\u00adn\u2019t count on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stanford.edu\/dept\/news\/report\/news\/october3\/nobel-103.html\">8 lau\u00adre\u00adates in one field<\/a>!<\/p>\n<p>Over\u00adall, Stan\u00adford lays direct claim to 23 lau\u00adre\u00adates (14 of whom are still liv\u00ading), and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stanford.edu\/dept\/news\/report\/news\/october3\/nobel-other-103.html\">indi\u00adrect claim to many more<\/a>, among them nov\u00adel\u00adist <a href=\"http:\/\/www-sul.stanford.edu\/depts\/hasrg\/ablit\/amerlit\/steinbeck.html\">John Stein\u00adbeck<\/a>, who attend\u00aded Stan\u00adford but got a C in his fresh\u00adman Eng\u00adlish class and dropped out before grad\u00adu\u00adat\u00ading.<\/p>\n<p>Wow\u2013what a school!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Yes\u00adter\u00adday Paula and I had the chance to get togeth\u00ader with Stan\u00adford Law Prof Jeff Str\u00adnad (who\u2019s quite a swim\u00admer).
