So for the last few days I\u2019ve been bom\u00adbard\u00aded with phone calls or urgent emails relat\u00ading to some minor cri\u00adsis about the event. It reached a fever pitch yes\u00adter\u00adday when I received a mes\u00adsage about every ten min\u00adutes (or so it seemed).<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s not a big deal \u2014 it\u2019s what you sign on for when you agree to direct a retreat or con\u00adfer\u00adence.<\/p>\n<p>How\u00adev\u00ader, I also had to preach last night. <\/p>\n<p>Being inter\u00adrupt\u00aded every ten min\u00adutes does not lend itself to robust ser\u00admon prepa\u00adra\u00adtion. I\u2019m very par\u00adtic\u00adu\u00adlar about my ser\u00admon prepa\u00adra\u00adtion rou\u00adtine. I like to research my top\u00adic thor\u00adough\u00adly, write out what I intend to say word for word, and then rehearse it (at least once, prefer\u00adably twice). When speak\u00ading in the evening, I usu\u00adal\u00adly man\u00adu\u00adscript in the morn\u00ading and rehearse in the after\u00adnoon. That did\u00adn\u2019t hap\u00adpen yes\u00adter\u00adday.<\/p>\n<p>The bot\u00adtom line is that I walked into last night\u2019s meet\u00ading less pre\u00adpared for a ser\u00admon than I have been in years.
