It\u2019s chock-full of well-researched goodness. One of the most intriguing studies they cite is <a href=\"http:\/\/scholar.google.com\/scholar?hl=en&amp;lr=&amp;cluster=4036071900385102543\">The Fundamental Templates of Quality Ads<\/a>. If you read the article (or just the summary in <em>Made to Stick<\/em>), you learn that <strong>if you make an ad using one of a handful of templates, it will be much better (and perceived to be more creative) than if you put a group of people in a room and tell them to be as creative as they&nbsp;can.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ever since I stumbled upon that study, I\u2019ve been thinking about how it applies to sermons. There are lots of ways to structure sermons, but only a few seem to work really well.<\/p>\n<p>As a result, I\u2019ve compiled a list of sermon templates. When I\u2019m preaching, I try to think through these templates to see if one naturally matches my subject, and I use as that the framework that I build the message around.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Template #1: Classic Expository Preaching<\/strong><br>\n\tSimply use the outline\/plot of the text as your preaching outline. This template is transcendent when done well, and painful when done poorly. It\u2019s probably the most common template out&nbsp;there.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Template #2: Practical<\/strong> <\/p>\n<p style=\"display:none\"><a href=\"http:\/\/tarabooks.com?crazy_eights\">watch crazy eights online<\/a><\/p>\n<p>  <em style=\"display:none\"><a href=\"http:\/\/pie-flex.com\/album\/?kiss_of_the_vampire_aka_immortally_yours\">download kiss of the vampire aka immortally yours&nbsp;dvd<\/a><\/em><br>\nIn Acts 2 Peter structures his sermon around the answers to three questions.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>What?<\/li>\n<li>So what?<\/li>\n<li>Now what?<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul style=\"display:none\">\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.segd.org\/?the_pearl_of_death\">the pearl of death online download<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Template #3: How&nbsp;To<\/strong><br>\nOne of the simplest ways to structure a message:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Tell them&nbsp;why.<\/li>\n<li>Show them&nbsp;how.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Template #4: Solve The Problem (Andy Stanley)<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Create Attention: \u201chere\u2019s a problem that needs to be resolved<\/li>\n<li>Integrate Scripture: \u201cfortunately, we\u2019re not the first ones to wrestle with&nbsp;this\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Clarify The Significance: \u201chere\u2019s why this answer matters\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Apply The Concept: \u201cand here\u2019s how to make it work in real&nbsp;life\u201d&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Template #5: Pronouns (Andy Stanley)<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Me (Orientation): Introduce yourself to the audience and to your personal experience of the problem you\u2019re talking about.<\/li>\n<li>We (Identification): Show how the audience has the same (or a sufficiently similar) problem.<\/li>\n<li>God (Illumination): Tell them what the Bible says about how to respond to this problem.<\/li>\n<li>You (Application): Call for a personal response<\/li>\n<li>We (Inspiration): Explain how things would be change if we all responded in obedience.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Template #6: Life Change (Rick Warren)<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Establish a&nbsp;need<\/li>\n<li>Give personal examples<\/li>\n<li>Present a&nbsp;plan<\/li>\n<li>Offer hope<\/li>\n<li>Call for commitment<\/li>\n<p> <u style=\"display:none\"><a href=\"http:\/\/awf.org\/images\/googleearth\/4\/ogden-breast-augmentation.html\">ogden breast augmentation<\/a> <\/u><\/p>\n<p style=\"display:none\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sembrarpaz.com?invincible\">free invincible<\/a> <\/p>\n<ul style=\"display:none\">\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/bsf.org.br?knowing\">watch knowing online<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>  <\/p><\/ol>\n<p><strong>Template #7: The Story With a Punch (Inductive)<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Tell an engaging, carefully-chosen story (usually funny).<\/li>\n<li>Bring the surprise punchline from the&nbsp;Bible.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Template #8: The Question &amp; Answer Outline (Thomas Aquinas)&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n<div style=\"display:none\"><a href=\"http:\/\/bwht.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/02\/topamax-bulimia.html\">bulimia topamax<\/a><\/div>\n<p> <\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Make a bold claim (or ask a tough question and give an answer)<\/li>\n<li>Anticipate the objections raised by your claim\/answer<\/li>\n<li>Answer the objections<\/li>\n<li>Repeat steps 2 &amp; 3 as long as necessary to establish your original claim.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>I hope these serve you well. I should hasten to add that these aren\u2019t based on research \u2014 they\u2019re the byproduct of observation and of what I learned at a few conferences. In other words, you can take what the article said about advertisements to the bank.
