{"id":1216,"date":"2009-02-02T16:08:33","date_gmt":"2009-02-03T00:08:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/glenandpaula.com\/wordpress\/?p=1216"},"modified":"2009-07-15T23:29:48","modified_gmt":"2009-07-16T07:29:48","slug":"digital-discipleship","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/glenandpaula.com\/wordpress\/archives\/2009\/02\/02\/digital-discipleship","title":{"rendered":"Digital Discipleship"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In one of the first con\u00adver\u00adsa\u00adtions I remem\u00adber hav\u00ading with Scott Aught\u00admon, he tried to sell me on the advan\u00adtages of using <a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/search?hl=en&amp;q=sequential+autoresponder\">sequen\u00adtial autore\u00adspon\u00adders<\/a> <u style=\"display:none\"><a href=\"http:\/\/tarabooks.com?evil_under_the_sun\">down\u00adload evil under the sun<\/a><\/u> <\/p>\n<p style=\"display:none\"><a href=\"http:\/\/turtlesurvival.org\/?dead_and_gone\">dead and gone online down\u00adload<\/a><\/p>\n<p>   in min\u00adistry. I had no idea what he was talk\u00ading about, so I smiled and nod\u00added.<\/p>\n<p>Turns out they\u2019re awe\u00adsome. I wish I had lis\u00adtened to him soon\u00ader. <\/p>\n<p>Con\u00adsid\u00ader the case of Dick Schroed\u00ader. He speaks at retreats and fre\u00adquent\u00adly prays with peo\u00adple to be bap\u00adtized in the Holy Spir\u00adit. Over the years, he has put togeth\u00ader a series of emails that he sends to peo\u00adple after\u00adwards to coach them from a dis\u00adtance.<\/p>\n<p>One day he asked me if there was a way to auto\u00admate the process. My mind flashed back to Scot\u00adt\u2019s enthu\u00adsi\u00adasm for these autore\u00adspon\u00adder things, so I down\u00adloaded a free PHP script called <a href=\"http:\/\/infinite.ibasics.biz\/\">Infi\u00adnite Respon\u00adder<\/a> <\/p>\n<p style=\"display:none\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.segd.org\/?juncture\">watch junc\u00adture online<\/a><\/p>\n<p>  and set up <a href=\"http:\/\/chialpha.com\/resources\/holyspirit\">http:\/\/chialpha.com\/resources\/holyspirit<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>Now if some\u00adone signs up, they begin receiv\u00ading coach\u00ading emails from Dick once a week. Since the mes\u00adsages appear to come from his email address, stu\u00addents can just hit \u201creply\u201d and ask Dick about any\u00adthing they found con\u00adfus\u00ading or that they need spe\u00adcial advice about. It\u2019s very low-main\u00adte\u00adnance for him, and Chi Alpha stu\u00addents nation\u00adwide get a year\u2019s worth of Dick\u00ad\u2019s exper\u00adtise.<\/p>\n<p>Since rolling this out at the World Mis\u00adsions Sum\u00admit (Jan 1st), we\u2019ve had just over 200 peo\u00adple sub\u00adscribe to these updates. That works out to about 7 signups a day. I have no idea where the total will cap out, but momen\u00adtum is build\u00ading and I don\u2019t even feel that the resource has been thor\u00adough\u00adly pub\u00adli\u00adcized yet.<\/p>\n<p>Things I like about the tool:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li> <strong>Low-tech.<\/strong> <u style=\"display:none\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.oca-gla.org\/?geronimo\">geron\u00adi\u00admo down\u00adload<\/a><\/u>\n<ul style=\"display:none\">\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/awf.org\/images\/googleearth\/4\/cozaar-elevated-heartrate.html\">cozaar ele\u00advat\u00aded heartrate<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>  It\u2019s just email. No one has to install a spe\u00adcial plu\u00adg\u00adin, put head\u00adphones in their com\u00adput\u00ader, or have some insane\u00adly fast con\u00adnec\u00adtion.<\/p><\/li>\n<li> <strong>Per\u00adson\u00adal. <\/strong> The emails come from an actu\u00adal human being to whom you can respond.<\/li>\n<li> <strong>Low-main\u00adte\u00adnance.<\/strong> Once the email is in the data\u00adbase, it\u2019s just there. Nei\u00adther Dick nor I need to do any\u00adthing spe\u00adcial to send them out. And Dick only gets replies from peo\u00adple who have spe\u00adcif\u00adic ques\u00adtions, which is only a frac\u00adtion of the peo\u00adple who receive any giv\u00aden email.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p> <u style=\"display:none\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.investorsunited.com\/ask-ian-blog\/?pirates_of_the_caribbean_dead_man_s_chest\">pirates of the caribbean dead man s chest down\u00adload<\/a><\/u> <\/p>\n<p>Pret\u00adty cool, eh?<\/p>\n<p>Late\u00adly I\u2019ve been won\u00adder\u00ading what oth\u00ader oppor\u00adtu\u00adni\u00adties are out there. Some ideas that I\u2019ve had:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Emails for new believ\u00aders<\/li>\n<li>A \u201c40 days\u201d type cam\u00adpaign for Chi Alpha with dai\u00adly emails where each cam\u00adpus that choos\u00ades to par\u00adtic\u00adi\u00adpate picks its own start and stop times and the script takes care of all those details.<\/li>\n<li>A first two weeks of school devo\u00adtion\u00adal to get stu\u00addents fired up when they return from sum\u00admer break<\/li>\n<li>Coach\u00ading emails for peo\u00adple who are called to min\u00adistry<\/li>\n<li>Month\u00adly emails for Chi Alpha grads to help them make the tran\u00adsi\u00adtion out of col\u00adlege grace\u00adful\u00adly<\/li>\n<li>A ter\u00adm\u2019s worth of week\u00adly emails for peo\u00adple pio\u00adneer\u00ading new Chi Alpha min\u00adistries<\/li>\n<li>etc,etc<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It\u2019s just a mat\u00adter of find\u00ading a per\u00adson with the right exper\u00adtise and hook\u00ading them up. So if you\u2019ve got an idea, I\u2019d love to hear about it. I\u2019d espe\u00adcial\u00adly love to hear if you\u2019re a Chi Alpha leader who has con\u00adtent ready to go.
