First:<\/b> At the very begin\u00adning of the 18th cen\u00adtu\u00adry, Nick was a stu\u00addent at the Uni\u00adver\u00adsi\u00adty of Halle in Ger\u00admany. He was a pas\u00adsion\u00adate fol\u00adlow\u00ader of Jesus, and he came to wield great influ\u00adence with his fel\u00adlow stu\u00addents. He went on to found a church, and the Mora\u00advian Church found\u00aded by Count Nicholas von Zinzen\u00addorf sent out more mis\u00adsion\u00adar\u00adies in twen\u00adty years than all the Protes\u00adtant church\u00ades of Europe had sent in the last 200. They began an around-the-clock prayer meet\u00ading for world mis\u00adsions that last\u00aded for 100 years with\u00adout inter\u00adrup\u00adtion. Sec\u00adond:<\/b> In 1726, John Wes\u00adley was a stu\u00addent at Oxford Uni\u00adver\u00adsi\u00adty and he formed a group called the \u201cHoly Club\u201d to study the Bible and reach out to the poor. They began to live their lives by a strict set of rules, care\u00adful\u00adly order\u00ading their life to give the max\u00adi\u00admum oppor\u00adtu\u00adni\u00adties to serve God. They were so dis\u00adci\u00adplined that oth\u00ader stu\u00addents mocked their method\u00adi\u00adcal life with the name \u201cMethodists.\u201d Lat\u00ader, John and his broth\u00ader Charles along with George Whit\u00adfield, anoth\u00ader alum\u00adnus of the Holy Club, were instru\u00admen\u00adtal in spread\u00ading the gospel across Amer\u00adi\u00adca in what we today call the First Great Awak\u00aden\u00ading in Amer\u00adi\u00adcan his\u00adto\u00adry. Third:<\/b> In August 1806, on a hot and humid Sat\u00adur\u00adday after\u00adnoon, fresh\u00adman Samuel Mills and four oth\u00ader stu\u00addents gath\u00adered in the maple grove of Sloan\u2019s Mead\u00adow along the Hoo\u00adsack Riv\u00ader for a twice-week\u00adly prayer meet\u00adings. Sud\u00adden\u00adly, rain began to pour down and so the stu\u00addents sought shel\u00adter from the dri\u00adving rain on the side of a huge haystack. There, with the rain falling from the sky Mills shared his grow\u00ading pas\u00adsion that the gospel be preached around the world. They prayed, and God showed up. That prayer meet\u00ading result\u00aded in the emer\u00adgence of mis\u00adsions in North Amer\u00adi\u00adca, and every sub\u00adse\u00adquent mis\u00adsions movement\u2014including ours\u2014traces its roots to that prayer meet\u00ading of col\u00adlege stu\u00addents. Fourth: <\/b>Just after Christ\u00admas in 1900, Charles Parham gave the stu\u00addents at Bethel Bible col\u00adlege in Tope\u00adka Kansas an assign\u00adment: search the Scrip\u00adtures and deter\u00admine if there was any way a per\u00adson could know whether or not they had been bap\u00adtized in the Holy Spir\u00adit. On Jan\u00adu\u00adary 1st 1901, just after mid\u00adnight, a young stu\u00addent named Agnes Ozman asked Parham to lay hands on her and pray that she might be filled with the Holy Spir\u00adit and that she would speak in tongues as a result. That event launched the great Pen\u00adte\u00adcostal revival which has swept and is sweep\u00ading the world. Today 9 out of every 10 peo\u00adple who are com\u00ading to faith in Christ are doing so in the con\u00adtext of a Spir\u00adit-filled Church. [learn more about Agnes Ozman<\/a>]<\/p>\n

Fifth: <\/b>In 1886 Dwight Moody invit\u00aded 251 col\u00adlege stu\u00addents to a retreat in Mount Her\u00admon, Mass\u00ada\u00adchu\u00adsets. He wasn\u2019t real\u00adly plan\u00adning to talk about world mis\u00adsions, but a strong bur\u00adden grew among the stu\u00addents there. By the end of the con\u00adfer\u00adence, pre\u00adcise\u00adly 100 of the 251 stu\u00addents signed a pledge stat\u00ading \u201cwe, the under\u00adsigned, declare our\u00adselves will\u00ading and desirous, God per\u00admit\u00adting, to go to the unevan\u00adge\u00adlized por\u00adtions of the world.\u201d That was the begin\u00adning of the Stu\u00addent Vol\u00adun\u00adteer Mis\u00adsions Move\u00adment. Their watch\u00adword was \u201cthe evan\u00adge\u00adliza\u00adtion of the world in this gen\u00ader\u00ada\u00adtion.\u201d Two Prince\u00adton stu\u00addents took it upon them\u00adselves to go on a speak\u00ading tour of Amer\u00adi\u00adcan col\u00adleges recruit\u00ading for mis\u00adsions. As a result, over 12,000 stu\u00addent vol\u00adun\u00adteers went into for\u00adeign mis\u00adsions before World War I broke out. Sixth: <\/b>In 1951, Bill Bright began min\u00adis\u00adter\u00ading to col\u00adlege stu\u00addents at UCLA. That began a move\u00adment known as Cam\u00adpus Cru\u00adsade for Christ that has grown far beyond col\u00adlege stu\u00addents and is now one of the most pow\u00ader\u00adful mis\u00adsions forces in the world. For exam\u00adple: they have shown a movie rep\u00adre\u00adsen\u00adta\u00adtion of the gospel of Luke to over 5 bil\u00adlion peo\u00adple in over 200 nations. Sev\u00adenth: <\/b>And in what is prob\u00ada\u00adbly the most amaz\u00ading sto\u00adry of col\u00adlege revival that I\u2019ve ever come across: I give you the sto\u00adry of a revival that began when five non-Chris\u00adtians gath\u00adered for prayer.<\/p>\n

To pro\u00advide a con\u00adtext: our nation was found\u00aded in 1776. In the 1790\u2019s, a poll con\u00adduct\u00aded at Har\u00advard revealed not one believ\u00ader which was orig\u00adi\u00adnal\u00adly found\u00aded to train min\u00adis\u00adters. At Prince\u00adton, a sim\u00adi\u00adlar poll showed only 2 Chris\u00adtians. When the dean opened the chapel Bible one day a pack of play\u00ading cards fell out because stu\u00addents had cut out a hid\u00ading place for them. \u201cChris\u00adtians were so few on the aver\u00adage cam\u00adpus and were so intim\u00adi\u00addat\u00aded by the non-Chris\u00adtians that they met in secret. Right around then at Ham\u00adp\u00adden Syd\u00adney Col\u00adlege in Vir\u00adginia five non-Chris\u00adt\u00adian stu\u00addents were so dis\u00adgust\u00aded with the lev\u00adel of immoral\u00adi\u00adty around them that they held a secret prayer meet\u00ading to ask for God\u2019s help. Some\u00adhow the oth\u00ader stu\u00addents found out about it and tried to break down the door! The pres\u00adi\u00addent of the col\u00adlege heard the riot and came to see what the prob\u00adlem was. The stu\u00addents told him and these were his words: \u201cYou don\u2019t mind cheat\u00ading, you, don\u2019t mind steal\u00ading from rooms, you don\u2019t mind the lying and the pro\u00adfan\u00adi\u00adty you get on this cam\u00adpus, but you object to a prayer meet\u00ading. Well, I do not!\u201d He then knocked on the door and said author\u00adi\u00adta\u00adtive\u00adly, \u201cThis is the pres\u00adi\u00addent of the col\u00adlege speak\u00ading. Will you please come out?\u201d The stu\u00addents unlocked the door and came out not know\u00ading what to expect. Pres\u00adi\u00addent Smith said, \u201cGen\u00adtle\u00admen, come to my study, we\u2019ll pray there togeth\u00ader.\u201d That sparked a revival on cam\u00adpus that result\u00aded in half of the stu\u00addent body con\u00advert\u00ading to Christ and more impor\u00adtant\u00adly: that was the begin\u00adning of the Sec\u00adond Great Awak\u00aden\u00ading.<\/p>\n
