{"id":140,"date":"2003-01-30T19:09:10","date_gmt":"2003-01-31T03:09:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/glenandpaula.com\/archives\/2003\/01\/30\/stanfords-spiritual-legacy\/"},"modified":"2003-01-30T19:09:10","modified_gmt":"2003-01-31T03:09:10","slug":"stanfords-spiritual-legacy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/glenandpaula.com\/wordpress\/archives\/2003\/01\/30\/stanfords-spiritual-legacy","title":{"rendered":"Stanford\u2019s Spiritual Legacy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An article in the January 25th edition of the San Jose Mercury News talked about Stanford\u2019s spiritual legacy: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bayarea.com\/mld\/mercurynews\/news\/local\/5029300.htm\">Church Remains At School\u2019s Heart<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><i>When Leland and Jane Stanford decided to place a church at the center of campus, the faculty balked. A library \u2014 a place of books and thought \u2014 would be more appropriate, the professors opined. But Jane Stanford stood&nbsp;firm.<\/i><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe church is the only institution that makes or has made or pretends to make a stand against immorality in all its forms,\u201d she said. \u201cEducation does not; nor does that science in which you are interested and which you consider all-powerful.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sadly, the church has (in my estimation) fallen far. Few would regard it as the heart of the university today, and the spiritual menu offered at the Church has broadened beyond measure: both the founder of the Ba\u2019hai faith and the Dalai Lama have spoken there.
