Yes\u00adter\u00adday morn\u00ading I went to hear Tony Cam\u00adpo\u00adlo speak at \u2018Straight Talk<\/a>\u2019, a real\u00adly cool min\u00adistry to busi\u00adness\u00adpeo\u00adple spon\u00adsored by Men\u00adlo Park Pres\u00adby\u00adter\u00adian Church<\/a>.<\/p>\n

He was real\u00adly funny\u2013I\u2019d always heard that he was a fun\u00adny guy, but he was REALLY fun\u00adny. He was also insight\u00adful. He con\u00adtrast\u00aded two basic ori\u00aden\u00adta\u00adtions to life (emo\u00adtion\u00adal and ratio\u00adnal, peo\u00adple and prin\u00adci\u00adple, yin and yang, Pen\u00adte\u00adcostal\u00adism and Pre\u00adby\u00adte\u00adri\u00adan\u00adism) and talked about how Jesus was able to inte\u00adgrate them both.<\/p>\n

When\u00adev\u00ader I\u2019m around a world-class speak\u00ader I always try to glean some tips. He did\u00adn\u2019t do a good job of con\u00adnect\u00ading with mem\u00adbers of the audi\u00adence before\u00adhand (we shared a break\u00adfast table sep\u00ada\u00adrat\u00aded by one per\u00adson and bare\u00adly exchanged two sen\u00adtences), although I think some of that may have been due to the struc\u00adture of the event rather than his pro\u00adcliv\u00adi\u00adty (there real\u00adly was\u00adn\u2019t much of a chance to talk). He did an excel\u00adlent job of using humor to make pro\u00adfound points, and was an out\u00adstand\u00ading sto\u00adry\u00adteller. In fact, his talk was real\u00adly a series of sto\u00adries con\u00adnect\u00aded by some log\u00adi\u00adcal tran\u00adsi\u00adtions.<\/p>\n

He was also out\u00adstand\u00ading at local\u00adiz\u00ading his mes\u00adsage. He had tons of jokes about Pres\u00adby\u00adte\u00adri\u00adans and Men\u00adlo Park and oth\u00ader things his audi\u00adence would res\u00adonate with. I\u2019ve got no doubt he\u2019s giv\u00aden basi\u00adcal\u00adly the same talk many times before, but it felt fresh and spe\u00adcial because of the local\u00adiza\u00adtions.<\/p>\n

Side note: Tony men\u00adtioned that he thinks Pen\u00adte\u00adcostal\u00adism is the\u00ado\u00adlog\u00adi\u00adcal\u00adly incon\u00adsis\u00adtent. I wish I had been able to talk to him about that\u2026 but duty called.<\/p>\n

As soon as the meet\u00ading was over, I had to book it up to Wood\u00adland to meet with two pas\u00adtors (AGTS<\/a> class\u00admate John Gal\u00adle\u00adgos and Jeff Bills), and then I drove to Sacra\u00admen\u00adto and met with anoth\u00ader pas\u00adtor (Eddie Rentz, the for\u00admer nation\u00adal youth direc\u00adtor for the Assem\u00adblies of God<\/a>: check out his google<\/a>), and start\u00aded to dri\u00adve home just in time to catch the traf\u00adfic jams.<\/p>\n

After return\u00ading I vis\u00adit\u00aded a stu\u00addent in his dorm room, and then came home around 7:30pm. Twelve hours on the road\u2013not a bad day.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
