Yes\u00adter\u00adday was an astound\u00ading\u00adly good day: I got up at 5am to dri\u00adve to Sacra\u00admen\u00adto for a meet\u00ading to appoint a new col\u00adlege min\u00adistries direc\u00adtor for our dis\u00adtrict<\/a>. The meet\u00ading went well, I offered some opin\u00adions and strong\u00adly rec\u00adom\u00admend\u00aded one of my peers for the posi\u00adtion, and then I recused myself from the meet\u00ading (it just seemed prop\u00ader since I was tech\u00adni\u00adcal\u00adly a can\u00addi\u00addate).<\/p>\n

I wait\u00aded out in the hall\u00adway for what seemed like an hour, and when I was invit\u00aded back in I was asked to take the helm in an inter\u00adim capac\u00adi\u00adty while we seek some\u00adone full-time for the posi\u00adtion! <\/p>\n

To clar\u00adi\u00adfy: this does\u00adn\u2019t involve Paula and I leav\u00ading the min\u00adistry at Stan\u00adford. This is an added thing.<\/p>\n

Although I did\u00adn\u2019t seek the posi\u00adtion (and I actu\u00adal\u00adly mean that\u2013this was\u00adn\u2019t one of those I won\u2019t seek it to make myself a more desir\u00adable can\u00addi\u00addate<\/i> sort of things), I was very excit\u00aded to be select\u00aded. There are more than 500,000 col\u00adlege stu\u00addents in this zone spread across over 40 size\u00adable cam\u00adpus\u00ades (and many, many small\u00ader ones), and I\u2019ve got some ideas I\u2019m eager to try out.<\/p>\n

After that I drove back and dis\u00adcov\u00adered that our min\u00adistry had received a pledge from a church. Woohoo!<\/p>\n

Fol\u00adlow\u00ading that I did some pid\u00addling work until the work\u00adday end\u00aded and played my cur\u00adrent video game, Brute Force<\/a>, and beat a lev\u00adel that was vex\u00ading me great\u00adly. Also a cause for cel\u00ade\u00adbra\u00adtion.<\/p>\n

Fol\u00adlow\u00ading that I head\u00aded into down\u00adtown Palo Alto to the Stan\u00adford The\u00adater<\/a> to watch The For\u00adbid\u00adden Plan\u00adet<\/a> and the orig\u00adi\u00adnal Time Machine<\/a> (two fine movies) with some of our Chi Alpha stu\u00addents. I just loved watch\u00ading those won\u00adder\u00adful films in that cool old the\u00adater, and I was pret\u00adty sur\u00adprised to real\u00adize that Leslie Nielsen was the star of The For\u00adbid\u00adden Plan\u00adet<\/i>. The whole movie I kept telling myself I\u2019ve seen this guy in some oth\u00ader films<\/i> but I could\u00adn\u2019t place him. I was shocked at the end cred\u00adits! In fact, I did\u00adn\u2019t even ful\u00adly con\u00adnect the dots until Lynette Gar\u00adcia said some\u00adthing about it.<\/p>\n

Final\u00adly, I came home and read very briefly from Daniel Boorstin\u2019s engag\u00ading book The Dis\u00adcov\u00ader\u00aders<\/a>. The only com\u00adplaint I have about his book is the giant chip he seems to have on his shoul\u00adder when he talks about reli\u00adgion (any reli\u00adgion). I\u2019m very curi\u00adous to see if that theme con\u00adtin\u00adues through the end of the book. Oth\u00ader than that it\u2019s excel\u00adlent (and his com\u00adments about reli\u00adgions and reli\u00adgious com\u00admu\u00adni\u00adties are insight\u00adful).<\/p>\n

Then I fell asleep\u2013it was 11:00pm!<\/p>\n
