{"id":258,"date":"2004-06-07T16:49:50","date_gmt":"2004-06-08T00:49:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/glenandpaula.com\/archives\/2004\/06\/07\/email-bankruptcy\/"},"modified":"2004-06-07T17:10:52","modified_gmt":"2004-06-08T01:10:52","slug":"email-bankruptcy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/glenandpaula.com\/wordpress\/archives\/2004\/06\/07\/email-bankruptcy","title":{"rendered":"Email Bankruptcy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.lessig.org\/\">Stanford law prof Lawrence Lessig<\/a> has <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wired.com\/news\/culture\/0,1284,63733,00.html\">declared email bankruptcy<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>In a script-driven note sent out last week, Lessig wrote: \u201cDear person who sent me a yet-unanswered e\u2011mail, I apologize, but I am declaring e\u2011mail bankruptcy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He went on to note that he had spent 80 hours the prior week sorting through unanswered e\u2011mail built up since January 2002, and had determined that \u201cwithout extraordinary effort\u201d he would simply never be able to respond to these messages.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Evidently he gets an average of 200 non-spam emails a day. I have to say that makes me feel better about my own email inadequacies. My next three days will be chiefly comprised of a concerted effort to whittle down my inbox. I started this morning at 387 non-spam, non-newsletter emails. I end today at 347. It doesn\u2019t look like much progress, but I had two hour long phone conversations and a bunch itty-bitty ones that kept me from the computer most of&nbsp;today.<\/p>\n<p>My goal for tomorrow is to get my inbox down to&nbsp;200\u2026<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Stanford law prof Lawrence Lessig has declared email bankruptcy.
