Antho\u00adny Sco\u00adma<\/a> just told me about a book\/author col\u00adli\u00adsion so improb\u00ada\u00adble that I had to check it out for myself: Pen\u00adte\u00adcostal Gifts and Min\u00adistries in a Post\u00admod\u00adern Era<\/a> by James K. Bridges<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Antho\u00adny assures me that con\u00adtrib\u00adu\u00adtors include Mau\u00adrice Led\u00adnicky<\/a> and Opal Red\u00addin.

Wow. This will mean noth\u00ading to 95% of you, but the oth\u00ader 5% are prob\u00ada\u00adbly rolling on the ground in laugh\u00adter right now. I can think of vir\u00adtu\u00adal\u00adly no one in our move\u00adment who speaks with less author\u00adi\u00adty on doing any\u00adthing in our \u201cpost\u00admod\u00adern era.\u201d<\/p>\n

Don\u2019t mis\u00adun\u00adder\u00adstand me\u2013there are many things about which they could write. This just isn\u2019t one of them. Hav\u00ading these authors write about post\u00admod\u00adern min\u00adistry is as sil\u00adly as hav\u00ading George Bush write a his\u00adto\u00adry of the Demo\u00adc\u00adra\u00adt\u00adic Par\u00adty. There\u2019s a lack of cred\u00adi\u00adbil\u00adi\u00adty.<\/p>\n

I won\u00adder if they knew what vol\u00adume they were con\u00adtribut\u00ading to or if the title was a last-minute mar\u00adket\u00ading change to sell more books? If the title changed on them at the last minute then I feel sor\u00adry for them, it just made them look sil\u00adly. <\/p>\n

A mes\u00adsage to James Bridges, Mau\u00adrice Led\u00adnicky, and Opal Red\u00addin (should they read this): please under\u00adstand that I bear you no mal\u00adice . I just think the idea that you and your peers were the pri\u00adma\u00adry con\u00adtrib\u00adu\u00adtors to this book is so fun\u00adny that I actu\u00adal\u00adly laughed out loud when I heard it. You are many good and noble things: filled with integri\u00adty, wise, Spir\u00adit-filled, and dis\u00adci\u00adplined are just a few of the adjec\u00adtives that come to mind. You are not, how\u00adev\u00ader, post\u00admod\u00adern. Nor do you under\u00adstand the post\u00admod\u00adern mind\u00adset.<\/p>\n

Of the authors Antho\u00adny named to me, the only one who I would expect to have any\u00adthing illu\u00admi\u00adnat\u00ading to say is Joe Castle\u00adber\u00adry<\/a>. I\u2019d believe that he actu\u00adal\u00adly under\u00adstands some\u00adthing about this gen\u00ader\u00ada\u00adtion and some of the under\u00adly\u00ading philo\u00adsoph\u00adi\u00adcal issues with which they wres\u00adtle.<\/p>\n

If GPH<\/a> want\u00aded to pub\u00adlish some\u00adthing worth\u00adwhile about post\u00admod\u00adern Pen\u00adte\u00adcostal min\u00adistry some of the AG folk they should talk to are Earl Creps<\/a>, Curt Har\u00adlow<\/a>, Mark Bat\u00adter\u00adson<\/a>, Jeff Devoll, Mark Miller<\/a> <\/p>\n

I have pulled this up from the com\u00adments beneath to bring some clar\u00adi\u00adty to a post that is obvi\u00adous\u00adly far more con\u00adfus\u00ading than I thought it was when I wrote it (7\/25\/2006):<\/b> I have great respect not only for Opal Red\u00addin but for the oth\u00ader min\u00adis\u00adters I men\u00adtioned as well. No one can be an expert in every area of min\u00adistry. Some are skilled the\u00adolo\u00adgians and some are skilled preach\u00aders and some rare few are both. Some excel at pas\u00adtoral care, oth\u00aders at exeget\u00ading our cul\u00adture, oth\u00aders at trans\u00adlat\u00ading the Bib\u00adli\u00adcal lan\u00adguages, oth\u00aders at church archi\u00adtec\u00adture, and oth\u00aders still at musi\u00adcal wor\u00adship. When I say that these min\u00adis\u00adters are the wrong group to write a book on min\u00adistry in a post\u00admod\u00adern con\u00adtext I am mere\u00adly sug\u00adgest\u00ading that there are oth\u00aders who would have been much bet\u00adter choic\u00ades.
