I\u2019ve been mean\u00ading to post this for a while<\/a>, but I kept get\u00adting dis\u00adtract\u00aded\u2026<\/p>\n

Hav\u00ading found my wed\u00adding ring<\/a> I hopped a plane to Bal\u00adti\u00admore to serve in Jer\u00adry\u2019s wed\u00adding.<\/p>\n

I met Jer\u00adry back in col\u00adlege, when he had real\u00adly long hair. He\u2019s gone on to get his Ph.D. in sta\u00adtis\u00adtics and now works for the Cen\u00adsus Bureau. He now has much short\u00ader hair.<\/p>\n

Any\u00adway, I flew in to Bal\u00adti\u00admore (arriv\u00ading at some ungod\u00adly hour), tried to check into the wrong hotel, and final\u00adly got set\u00adtled in some\u00adtime around 2 or 3 AM, if I remem\u00adber cor\u00adrect\u00adly. It\u2019s all a bit of a blur.<\/p>\n

The next morn\u00ading I vis\u00adit\u00aded the Edgar Allen Poe house<\/a>, which was in the hood (this was some\u00adwhat fit\u00adting, as Poe wrote dis\u00adturb\u00ading fic\u00adtion and I was great\u00adly dis\u00adturbed after hav\u00ading had sev\u00ader\u00adal peo\u00adple ask me if I was sure I want\u00aded to be walk\u00ading down the street). Inter\u00adest\u00ading\u00adly enough, even I had to duck to get up the stairs. Poe must have been one short (or lim\u00adber) dude.<\/p>\n

After that I had the best crab cake I\u2019ve ever had in my life at Fai\u00add\u00adley Seafood<\/a>. <\/p>\n

Then I head\u00aded down to DC. I looked at tons of his\u00adtor\u00adi\u00adcal and inspi\u00adra\u00adtional buildings\/monuments\/memorials. By far the coolest was the Library of Con\u00adgress<\/a>. No, real\u00adly. If you\u2019ve nev\u00ader gone on the guid\u00aded tour you have to go and check out the read\u00ading room. It\u2019s astound\u00ading!<\/p>\n

Added to my before-I-die list: do research in the Library of Con\u00adgress (any\u00adone can do it, you just need to make time in your sched\u00adule).<\/p>\n

By for\u00adtu\u00adnate hap\u00adpen\u00adstance, Siew Ying<\/a> (one of our Chi Alpha stu\u00addents) was in D.C. at the same time I was, so we got to hang out togeth\u00ader for a bit.<\/p>\n

I also had a chance to meet with Mark Bat\u00adter\u00adson<\/a>, pas\u00adtor of Nation\u00adal Com\u00admu\u00adni\u00adty Church<\/a>. He\u2019s one of the most inter\u00adest\u00ading and well-read pas\u00adtors I\u2019ve ever met (which is say\u00ading some\u00adthing). Props to Scott Aught\u00admon<\/a> for hook\u00ading me up with the meet\u00ading!<\/p>\n

Any\u00adway, I head\u00aded down to Wal\u00addorf, MD<\/a> to con\u00adnect with Jer\u00adry and Elvi\u00adra (his bride-to-be). I helped Jer\u00adry, Elvi\u00adra, their familes, and Tina (the maid of hon\u00ador) do some dec\u00ado\u00adrat\u00ading for the recep\u00adtion. I also relearned how to tie a slip\u00adknot, which was an unex\u00adpect\u00aded bonus.<\/p>\n

The high\u00adlight for me was meet\u00ading Jer\u00adry\u2019s friends (espe\u00adcial\u00adly my fel\u00adlow servers Daniel, Tina, and Bethany<\/a>). Bethany put some pho\u00adtos online<\/a>, so if you\u2019d like to see me in a tux this is your big chance!<\/p>\n

Inci\u00adden\u00adtal\u00adly, I have to take full respon\u00adsi\u00adbil\u00adi\u00adty for this shot of Bethany plant\u00adi\u00adng her face in the cake<\/a>. Drunk peo\u00adple are so much fun to be around\u2013they\u2019ll do any\u00adthing!<\/p>\n

Side note: the recep\u00adtion was pret\u00adty fun, but I was remind\u00aded of how sil\u00adly the Assem\u00adblies of God<\/a> can look to some peo\u00adple. Peo\u00adple were fine with me not drink\u00ading, but the whole not danc\u00ading thing<\/a> was hard for them to wrap their brains around. For the record, I think our pol\u00adi\u00adcy is a bit quirky (and not in an endear\u00ading way).<\/p>\n

On a relat\u00aded note, I enjoyed meet\u00ading the ECLA pas\u00adtor who was con\u00adduct\u00ading the cer\u00ade\u00admo\u00adny<\/a>. Nice guy. He and I are light-years apart the\u00ado\u00adlog\u00adi\u00adcal\u00adly, but I real\u00adly enjoyed chat\u00adting with him.<\/p>\n

Any\u00adway, the wed\u00adding went off with\u00adout a hitch (except the hitch that\u2019s the point of the whole thing), and good times were had by all. I did make one faux pas, I did\u00adn\u2019t real\u00adize that Elvi\u00adra was\u00adn\u2019t chang\u00ading her last name to Maples and said some\u00adthing like \u201cHow does it feel to be Mrs. Elvi\u00adra Maples?\u201d Oh well, worse mis\u00adtakes have been made<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Before fly\u00ading out I got to swing by D.C. again, vis\u00adit the Daedalus Books Ware\u00adhouse<\/a>, and eat some more crab cakes in Bal\u00adti\u00admore.<\/p>\n
