At the core of my ministry lies a set of convictions summarizing my understanding
\n of the Biblical teachings on ministry and life. <\/p>\n
I Must Nurture Intimacy With God:<\/b> if I do not act out of a vibrant I Must Cultivate My Character<\/b>: who I am is more important that I Must Build My Marriage<\/b>: God gave me a wife for a reasonshe I Must Hone My Skills<\/b>: God deserves the very best I have to offer. I Must Maintain Healthy Relationships<\/b>: fundamentally, ministry I Must Rigorously Analyze My Beliefs:<\/b> beliefs drive behavior. \n spirituality, then I labor in vain. I must regularly:<\/p>\n\n
\n both with my spirit and with understanding<\/i><\/li>\n
\n His Word: for personal growth in addition to ministry tasks<\/i><\/li>\n
\n Corporate Worship: participating regardless of my emotional state<\/i><\/li>\n
\n With a Small Group of Fellow-Believers: for accountability and encouragement.<\/i><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
\n what I do. Character is a broad topic, but I consider these qualities
\n to be central:<\/p>\n\n
\n acting on what I profess to believe in public and private<\/i><\/li>\n
\n disregarding personal consequences when facing moral choices<\/i><\/li>\n
\n Work: doing the best I can do because God is always my boss<\/i><\/li>\n
\n Responsibility: living within my means, being generous, saving for the
\n future<\/i><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
\n is to be a friend and a partner in ministry. Plus, I will be married after
\n I retire. I ignore that fact at my peril.<\/b><\/p>\n
\n Therefore I read widely and wisely, and I earnestly desire book, conference,
\n and other resource recommendations from those I esteem. My goal is to
\n master the essentials of my profession. At present, I understand those
\n essentials to be:<\/p>\n\n
\n Discipline: learning to live a Godward life<\/i><\/li>\n
\n learning to interpret the Bible responsibly<\/i><\/li>\n
\n learning to help others act effectively<\/i><\/li>\n
\n learning to articulate ideas persuasively<\/i><\/li>\n
\n learning to intrigue others with Christ and His Church<\/i><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
\n is about relationships. As a spiritual leader, I accept responsibility
\n for the health of the relationships I am involved with and will work to
\n deepen them.<\/p>\n
\n I have a tremendous capacity for intellectual laziness and self-deception.
\n I must read the most challenging works and talk with the most challenging
