At 12:01 am I became a proud Halo 2<\/a> own\u00ader.<\/p>\n

At least, in the\u00ado\u00adry I did. I did\u00adn\u2019t actu\u00adal\u00adly get a copy in my grub\u00adby lit\u00adtle paws until around 1:00 am.<\/p>\n

I had pre\u00adpaid for the game and it was wait\u00ading for me in the store with my name on it, I just had to wait in line behind approx\u00adi\u00admate\u00adly 200 oth\u00ader peo\u00adple who also the\u00ado\u00adret\u00adi\u00adcal\u00adly owned copies.<\/p>\n

Really\u2013there were at least 200 folks there, and I think the real total was clos\u00ader to 250. For\u00adtu\u00adnate\u00adly most of them were groups of two to four folks who all intend\u00aded to go home and get their game on right after\u00adwards. There were prob\u00ada\u00adbly 80\u201390 actu\u00adal game acquisi\u00adtors (is that a word?) ahead of me.<\/p>\n

Over\u00adall it took me an hour to make my way to the front of my line.<\/p>\n

Nick Hasu\u00adlak<\/a> (a stu\u00addent from our min\u00adistry<\/a>) had bummed a ride off of me to pick up a copy. He had\u00adn\u2019t pre\u00adpaid or pre\u00adorder or pre\u00adcon\u00adsid\u00adered. He just decid\u00aded to hop in my car and pur\u00adchase the game for him\u00adself.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s the kick\u00ader: he got his copy before I did in the \u201cVIP\u201d line for ful\u00adly-paid pre\u00adorders. I guess the store fig\u00adured that since we had already giv\u00aden them our mon\u00adey they did\u00adn\u2019t need to wor\u00adry too much about cus\u00adtomer ser\u00advice.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ll remem\u00adber that next time I\u2019m tempt\u00aded to pre\u00adpay.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve now rat\u00adi\u00adfied my geekdom\u2013I stood in line at mid\u00adnight for a videogame. <\/p>\n

Of course, Halo tran\u00adscends social stra\u00adta and so at least half the peo\u00adple stand\u00ading along\u00adside me looked like they had just stepped out of an Aber\u00adcrom\u00adbie and Fitch com\u00admer\u00adcial\u2026 maybe this isn\u2019t the act I\u2019ve been look\u00ading for to firm\u00adly estab\u00adlish myself in geek cir\u00adcles.<\/p>\n

Any\u00adway, I\u2019ve start\u00aded play\u00ading and the game is incred\u00adi\u00adble. It ful\u00adly lives up to my expec\u00adta\u00adtions, at least so far.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
