I some\u00adhow missed this arti\u00adcle from the Stan\u00adford Dai\u00adly a few weeks ago : Chris\u00adt\u00adian Groups Sue Uni\u00adver\u00adsi\u00adties Nation\u00adwide<\/a>.<\/p>\n

some Chris\u00adt\u00adian groups have been suc\u00adcess\u00adful in forc\u00ading col\u00adleges to allow them to bar gay stu\u00addents and athe\u00adists.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

That\u2019s an awful\u00adly loaded<\/s> inter\u00adest\u00ading way to describe what\u2019s been hap\u00adpen\u00ading. It makes it sound as though the Chris\u00adt\u00adian groups are agi\u00adtat\u00ading for rights pre\u00advi\u00adous\u00adly denied them instead of react\u00ading to new uni\u00adver\u00adsi\u00adty poli\u00adcies which under\u00admine their beliefs. Junior Ros\u00adabelle Ori\u00adbel\u00adlo, the LGBT [Les\u00adbian, Gay, Bisex\u00adu\u00adal, Trans\u00adgen\u00addered] Center\u2019s liai\u00adson to on-cam\u00adpus res\u00adi\u00addences, believes the cur\u00adrent polit\u00adi\u00adcal atmos\u00adphere at Stan\u00adford will help pre\u00advent the out\u00adbreak of such a con\u00adtro\u00adver\u00adsy.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t think it will hap\u00adpen at this cam\u00adpus because the mes\u00adsage the cen\u00adter has got\u00adten from the reli\u00adgious groups has been that they are pret\u00adty affirm\u00ading of LGBTs,\u201d she said. \u201cThough I don\u2019t know what it\u2019s like on oth\u00ader col\u00adlege cam\u00adpus\u00ades, we have a pret\u00adty lib\u00ader\u00adal cam\u00adpus and that goes far in reduc\u00ading the chances of these kinds of con\u00adflicts.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

While many reli\u00adgious groups at Stan\u00adford clear\u00adly do affirm what\u00adev\u00ader sex\u00adu\u00adal choic\u00ades you make, many oth\u00aders do not. You would have no clue based on this arti\u00adcle. That\u2019s odd.<\/p>\n

In oth\u00ader words, ide\u00ado\u00adlog\u00adi\u00adcal diver\u00adsi\u00adty is the one sort of diver\u00adsi\u00adty that is frowned upon.<\/p>\n

On that note, I find it curi\u00adous that the author appar\u00adent\u00adly did\u00adn\u2019t seek to inter\u00adview any\u00adone who dis\u00adagreed with his pre\u00adsup\u00adpo\u00adsi\u00adtions. Of the three reli\u00adgious groups he did inter\u00adview, none had been involved in the law\u00adsuits on oth\u00ader cam\u00adpus\u00ades. That\u2019s worth not\u00ading sim\u00adply because the arti\u00adcle men\u00adtions Inter\u00adVar\u00adsi\u00adty at Tufts by name and there\u2019s a very active Inter\u00adVar\u00adsi\u00adty chap\u00adter here on the Farm<\/a>. I won\u00adder what they would have said had they been asked?<\/p>\n
