I\u2019ve seen Doug Fields, George Barna, Larry Osborne, Henry Cloud, etc. The best part is I can bring students and expose them to some of these leaders.<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, I was particularly excited about the recent <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ccn.tv\/programming\/event\/evt_12may05.htm\">Worship In The Emerging Church seminar<\/a> with <a href=\"http:\/\/dankimball.typepad.com\/\">Dan Kimball (he blogs!)<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/sacramentis.com\/sally\/bio.html\">Sally Morgenthaler<\/a>. If you\u2019re going to hear two folks talk about this subject it\u2019s hard to pick a better team. You can get the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ccn.tv\/programming\/event\/downloads\/evt_12may05\/5-12-05Outline.pdf\">notes in PDF<\/a> (although there are blanks).<\/p>\n<p>Some thoughts I&nbsp;had:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>As I suspected, college ministry really is a behind-the-scenes driver for a lot of the \u201cemerging church\u201d \u201cpostmodern church\u201d stuff. Dan launched the precursor to his current church as a college ministry. All the staff at Curtis\u2019 church (including Curtis) are former college ministers.<\/li>\n<li>Dan  mentioned that he had done a survey and 98% of UC Santa Cruz students were not part of either a church or a campus ministry. Hurry up, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cruzinormes.com\/\">Brian &amp; Cecilee<\/a>!<\/li>\n<li>Curtis Chang was also there as an audience member. He wrote a book on methodology in apologetics (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/redirect?tag=myspeculation-20%26link_code=xm2%26camp=2025%26creative=165953%26path=http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/redirect.html%253fASIN=0830822666%2526location=\/o\/ASIN\/0830822666%25253FSubscriptionId=1ESPWHQPEAFEE2CS3BG2\" title=\"View product details at Amazon\">Engaging Unbelief<\/a>) which I really like. He also pastors an <a href=\"http:\/\/the-river.org\/\">uber-cool church<\/a> in nearby San Jose. I asked what he\u2019s been reading lately and he said <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/redirect?tag=myspeculation-20%26link_code=xm2%26camp=2025%26creative=165953%26path=http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/redirect.html%253fASIN=0812973011%2526location=\/o\/ASIN\/0812973011%25253FSubscriptionId=1ESPWHQPEAFEE2CS3BG2\" title=\"View product details at Amazon\">Mountains Beyond Mountains<\/a> and that it had really stretched his vision. I\u2019d never heard of the book, which just shows I really do know less than other people think I&nbsp;do.<\/li>\n<li>The weakest point in the seminar was a foray into the realms of multiple learning styles. I find the concept as it is usually expressed pretty bogus. I\u2019m not sure the church should be taking its lead from America\u2019s education system and the theories that underlie it. Let me rephrase that. I\u2019m sure the church should not be taking its lead from America\u2019s education system.
