In a similar way, we need to become wise people whose faith interacts with the&nbsp;world.<\/p>\n<p>To that end, I share articles\/resources I have found helpful recently in thinking about broader cultural and societal issues (be sure to see the disclaimer at the bottom). May these give you greater insight, so that you may continue the tradition of Issachar. The problems with America\u2019s justice system go way beyond the actions of officers on patrol.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/article\/417155\/wisonsins-shame-i-thought-it-was-home-invasion-david-french\">Wisconsin\u2019s Shame: I Thought It Was A Home Invasion<\/a> (David French, National Review): the gag orders are the most distressing component of this&nbsp;story.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/politics\/archive\/2015\/05\/the-glaring-injustice-of-civil-asset-forfeiture\/392999\/\">The Injustice of Civil-Asset Forfeiture<\/a> (Conor Friedersdorf, The Atlantic): yet another depressing feature of American law.<\/li>\n<li>On the flip side, it\u2019s still way better here than many other places: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ted.com\/talks\/gary_haugen_the_hidden_reason_for_poverty_the_world_needs_to_address_now\">The Hidden Reason For Poverty The World Needs to Address Now<\/a> (Gary Haugen, TED Talk): Haugen, incidentally, is a devout Christian.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>From the methodology matters department: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bloombergview.com\/articles\/2015-06-30\/tallying-right-wing-terror-vs-jihad\">Tallying Right-Wing Terror vs Jihad<\/a> (Megan McArdle, Bloomberg View) \u2014 I am not super-interested in the topic itself, but I found this piece fascinating as an example of how important research methodology is. Hone your&nbsp;craft!<\/li>\n<li>From the grace abounds department: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2015\/07\/10\/nyregion\/central-park-festival-to-highlight-new-yorks-vibrant-evangelical-movement.html?_r=0\">An Evangelical Revival In The Heart of New York<\/a> (Liz Robbins, New York Times): this is about an event hosted by Luis Palau, not an eruption of piety in the Big Apple, although the article notes that the number of evangelicals in NYC has increased by 20% since 2000. This related story adds fascinating details: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nycreligion.info\/saturdays-big-evangelism-event-central-park-fueled-community-service\/\">Saturday\u2019s Big Evangelism Event In Central Park Fueled By Community Service With A Blessing From A Gay Mayor In Portlandia<\/a> (Pauline Dolle, A Journey Through NYC Religions).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3><b>Disclaimer<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>Chi Alpha is not a partisan organization. To paraphrase another minister: we are not about the donkey\u2019s agenda and we are not about the elephant\u2019s agenda \u2014 we are about the Lamb\u2019s agenda. Having said that, I read widely (in part because I believe we should aspire to pass<a href=\"http:\/\/econlog.econlib.org\/archives\/2011\/06\/the_ideological.html\"> the ideological Turing test<\/a> and in part because I do not believe I can fairly say \u201cI agree\u201d or \u201cI disagree\u201d until I can say \u201cI understand\u201d) and may at times share articles that have a strong partisan bias simply because I find the article stimulating.
