In a similar way, we need to become wise people whose faith interacts with the&nbsp;world.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To that end, on Fridays I\u2019ve been sharing articles\/resources I have found helpful recently in thinking about broader cultural and societal issues (be sure to see the disclaimer at the bottom). May these give you greater insight, so that you may continue the tradition of Issachar. Not so much about broader societal issues \u2014 but you\u2019ll want to read it nonetheless.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/politics\/archive\/2015\/10\/the-anti-free-speech-movement-at-ucla\/410638\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Anti-Free Speech Movement at UCLA<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&nbsp;(The Atlantic, Conor Friedersdorf): I particularly liked this b<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">it: \u201cThe college students fighting to limit free speech or to punish free expression are courting tremendous harms that would ultimately fall disproportionately on the least powerful, most marginalized groups of the present and future\u2026. activists who say that they live in a system of white supremacy [should not] empower state administrators to police speech at their discretion!\u201d<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&nbsp;&nbsp;For much more, check out UCLA law prof Eugene Volokh\u2019s&nbsp;<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/news\/volokh-conspiracy\/wp\/category\/freedom-of-speech-at-colleges-and-universities\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">comments on campus freedom of speech<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&nbsp;(some of which are quoted in the Friedersdorf article).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/cash-strapped-missionaries-get-a-new-calling-home-1445765402?mod=rss_US_News\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cash Strapped Missionaries Get A New Calling: Home<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&nbsp;(Wall Street Journal, Tamara Audi): this is sad.&nbsp;I encourage you to pray for and give to missionaries.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/libertystreeteconomics.newyorkfed.org\/2015\/10\/reframing-the-debate-about-payday-lending.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Reframing The Debate About Payday Lending<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&nbsp;(the blog of the New York Fed): Fascinating. I\u2019ve been critical of payday lenders in the past, but at least some of my misgivings appear to have been off the&nbsp;mark.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.catholicworldreport.com\/Item\/4321\/a_black_legend_refuted.aspx\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A Black Legend Refuted<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&nbsp;(Catholic World Report): this is a review of&nbsp;<\/span><i>Church of Spies: The Pope\u2019s Secret War Against Hitler.&nbsp;<\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The<\/span>&nbsp;<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">review is from a biased source, but is the most detailed of the reviews I\u2019ve seen. Kirkus Reviews, a secular source, also has&nbsp;<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kirkusreviews.com\/book-reviews\/mark-riebling\/church-of-spies\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">good things<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&nbsp;to say about it as does&nbsp;<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.firstthings.com\/web-exclusives\/2015\/10\/pius-xii-co-conspirator-in-tyrannicide\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">First Things<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which is in between the two ideologically.
