Come back to school more on fire than when you&nbsp;left!<\/p>\n<p>Here are some resources to help you grow in your prayer life by rooting your prayers in God\u2019s Word.&nbsp;Tim Kerr explains the power of this very well in his book&nbsp;<em>Take Words With You<\/em>&nbsp;(available online as&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/cdn.desiringgod.org\/pdf\/blog\/3183_TWWY_3rd%20edition_online%20version.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">a free PDF<\/a>).<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>There are two words that are very powerful when used in&nbsp;prayer. These words are simply, \u201cyou said\u201d. In Genesis 31:2, God makes a promise to Jacob. Involved in that promise is one of the most faith-giving promises in Scripture\u2014\u201cI will be with you\u201d. A promise that means God will do us good and pour out his favour upon us! Then later, when in deep crises, Jacob cries out to God in&nbsp;prayer&nbsp;and reminds God of his promise to him. Listen to what he&nbsp;says:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>But&nbsp;<strong>you said<\/strong>,\u2018I will surely do you good\u2019\u2026 and Jacob said, \u201cO God of my father Abraham and God of my father Isaac,&nbsp;<strong>O LORD who said to me<\/strong>,\u2018Return to your country and to your kindred, that I may do you good.\u2019 Gen 32:12, 32:9<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The fuel of an intercessor is the promises of&nbsp;God.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><i>The fuel of an intercessor is the promises of God. <\/i>Wow.&nbsp;Isn\u2019t that inspiring?&nbsp;Here are three articles that have helped me root my&nbsp;prayers&nbsp;in the&nbsp;Word.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.redeemer.com\/learn\/resources_by_topic\/prayer\/prayer_and_fasting\/speaking_gods_language_how_scripture_can_add_power_to_your_prayers\/\" target=\"_blank\">Speaking God\u2019s Language: How Scripture Can Add Power To Your&nbsp;Prayers<\/a>&nbsp;(Joni Erickson Tada)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.redeemer.com\/learn\/resources_by_topic\/prayer\/prayer_and_fasting\/a_prayer_life_that_nourishes_your_relationship_to_god\/\" target=\"_blank\">A&nbsp;Prayer&nbsp;Life That Nourishes Your Relationship To God<\/a>&nbsp;(Tim Keller)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.thegospelcoalition.org\/kevindeyoung\/2013\/01\/04\/how-to-pray-using-scripture\/\" target=\"_blank\">How To&nbsp;Pray&nbsp;Using Scripture<\/a>&nbsp;(Kevin DeYoung)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I hope these articles (and Kerr\u2019s book) are as much of a blessing to you as they were to&nbsp;me.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>(the following is adapted from an email I sent to our students and to our prayer team recently): I encourage you to make it your goal to grow spiritually as we celebrate the birth of Christ.
