In a similar way, we need to become wise people whose faith interacts with the&nbsp;world.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To that end, on Fridays I\u2019ve been sharing articles\/resources I have found helpful recently in thinking about broader cultural and societal issues (be sure to see the disclaimer at the bottom). May these give you greater insight, so that you may continue the tradition of Issachar. Divided by 365, that\u2019s 2,123 words a day. The average person reads 200 to 250 words per minute. So 2,123 words\/day divided by 225 words\/minute equals 9.4 minutes a day.\u201d This article is full of good advice for what could&nbsp;be the best&nbsp;commitment&nbsp;you make all year. Do&nbsp;it!<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.theamericanconservative.com\/jacobs\/im-thinking-it-over\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I\u2019m Thinking It Over<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (The American Conservative, Alan Jacobs): this is really good advice for social media. Bonus: it name-drops a legendary Stanford professor. Reading this article made me feel good about not sending this email out over Christmas break.&nbsp;\ud83d\ude42<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.christianpost.com\/news\/economy-money-poverty-arthur-brooks-religion-economics-poor-great-society-153846\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Can You Glorify God As An Economist?<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Christian Post, Napp Nazworth): tl;dr&nbsp;yes.&nbsp;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.thegospelcoalition.org\/kevindeyoung\/2016\/01\/05\/across-the-race-divide\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Across The Race Divide<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Gospel Coalition, Kevin DeYoung) \u2014 somewhat long but worthwhile. Difficult to excerpt in a way that won\u2019t tempt you pigeonhole the&nbsp;piece.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/magazine\/archive\/2016\/01\/can-hobby-lobby-buy-the-bible\/419088\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Can Hobby Lobby Buy The Bible?<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (The Atlantic, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Joel Baden and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Candida Moss<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">): the framing is alarmist, some of the claims&nbsp;about textual criticism are dubious, but the article is quite engaging. The allegations of artifact smuggling seem mostly the byproduct of naivete to me and I hope they prove to be so. The authors are professors at Yale and Notre&nbsp;Dame.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/politics\/archive\/2016\/01\/alabama-marriage-order-moore\/422931\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Quixotic Adventures of Roy Moore<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (The Atlantic, Matt Ford) \u2014 I was most interested by the beginning of the fifth paragrap<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">h: \u201cWhile that may be technically correct\u2026\u201d &nbsp;Heh.&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I think the best journalism on this was actually done by The Montgomery Advertiser. It blew away the NY Times, NPR, etc by actually interviewing people with differing opinions. If you\u2019ve read my previous emails there\u2019s not much new here, but the Stanford connection caught my attention.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3><b>Disclaimer<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chi Alpha is not a partisan organization. To paraphrase another minister: we are not about the donkey\u2019s agenda and we are not about the elephant\u2019s agenda \u2014 we are about the Lamb\u2019s agenda. Having said that, I read widely (in part because I believe we should aspire to pass <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/econlog.econlib.org\/archives\/2011\/06\/the_ideological.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the ideological Turing test<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and in part because I do not believe I can fairly say \u201cI agree\u201d or \u201cI disagree\u201d until I can say \u201cI understand\u201d) and may at times share articles that have a strong partisan bias simply because I find the article stimulating. The upshot: you should not assume I agree with everything an author says in an article I mention, much less things the author has said in other articles.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Also, remember that I\u2019m not reporting news \u2014 I\u2019m giving you a selection of things I found interesting.
