Sensing an opportunity, on-campus Christian fellowships and churches have gone out of their collective way to help those fresh from&nbsp;China.\u201d&nbsp;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/vitalmagazine.com\/spirit\/uncovering-the-assemblies-of-god-s-black-heritage\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Uncovering the Assemblies of God\u2019s Black Heritage<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Darrin Rodgers, Vital Magazine): the Assemblies of God is Chi Alpha\u2019s sponsoring denomination and the group with which I am ordained. Some neat anecdotes here.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.npr.org\/sections\/goatsandsoda\/2016\/02\/03\/463965924\/why-nepal-has-one-of-the-worlds-fastest-growing-christian-populations\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Why Nepal Has One of the World\u2019s Fastest Growing Christian Populations<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Danielle Preiss, NPR): <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">my favorite bit, \u201ca team were also in Nepal in October helping rebuild the earthquake-damaged house that belongs to the family of Sumitra Pariyar, a young woman who believes she was healed from paralysis and seizures by her acceptance of Christ.\u201d I find the choice of words funny: she \u201cbelieves\u201d she was healed from paralysis by Christ. I\u2019m pretty sure she knows whether she was paralyzed or not. How about \u201ca young woman&nbsp;who&nbsp;says she was healed from paralysis and seizures by her acceptance of Christ.\u201d That\u2019s just better journalism.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.religionnews.com\/2016\/02\/06\/president-obama-religious-freedom-keeps-us-strong-rns-exclusive-commentary\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Religious Freedom Keeps Us Strong<\/span><\/a> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(Barack Obama, Religion News Service): yes, this is by President Obama. The thing I am most pleased about is his use of the phrase \u201cfreedom of religion\u201d as opposed to the much less expansive \u201cfreedom of worship.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.russellmoore.com\/2016\/02\/08\/what-a-super-bowl-ad-reveals-about-our-abortion-culture\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What A Super Bowl Ad Reveals About Our Abortion Culture<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Russell Moore, personal blog): this went in a different direction than I assumed&nbsp;it would. Get a mirror \u2014 this is your&nbsp;life.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/imgur.com\/XqAJ9jY\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What To Do When Someone Hands You A Baby<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (imgur)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3><b>Why Do You Send This&nbsp;Email?<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the time of King David, the tribe of Issachar produced shrewd warriors \u201cwho understood the times and knew what Israel should do\u201d (1 Chron 12:32). In a similar way, we need to become wise people whose faith interacts with the world. I pray this email gives you greater insight, so that you may continue the tradition of Issachar.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Disclaimer<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chi Alpha is not a partisan organization. To paraphrase another minister: we are not about the donkey\u2019s agenda and we are not about the elephant\u2019s agenda \u2014 we are about the Lamb\u2019s agenda. Having said that, I read widely (in part because I believe we should aspire to pass <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/econlog.econlib.org\/archives\/2011\/06\/the_ideological.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the ideological Turing test<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and in part because I do not believe I can fairly say \u201cI agree\u201d or \u201cI disagree\u201d until I can say \u201cI understand\u201d) and may at times share articles that have a strong partisan bias simply because I find the article stimulating. The upshot: you should not assume I agree with everything an author says in an article I mention, much less things the author has said in other articles (although if I strongly disagree with something in the article I\u2019ll usually mention it).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Also, remember that I\u2019m not reporting news \u2014 I\u2019m giving you a selection of things I found interesting.
