Recommended for social scientists. One cool bit: \u201cThey argue that the spread of university students from Protestant strongholds (Wittenberg and Basel, the intellectual homes of Luther and Zwingli) and orthodox Catholic strongholds (Cologne and Louvain) had a significant impact on whether a town ultimately adopted the Reformation.\u201d Which is a very fancy way of saying God uses university students.&nbsp;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On the random side:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/AskReddit\/comments\/45m1zl\/whats_the_coolest_mathematical_fact_you_know_of\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What is the coolest mathematical fact that you know of?<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (reddit): the top responses are uniformly fascinating. Build your nerd&nbsp;cred!<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-kentucky-viagra-idUSKCN0VO22Y\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Viagra bill<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: I know it\u2019s supposed to be a joke, but I would be in favor of this bill with very slight amendments. The fact that the lawmaker thinks it self-evidently ridiculous is evidence of how vast the chasm is between us.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/news\/wonk\/wp\/2016\/02\/16\/when-to-stop-dating-and-settle-down-according-to-math\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When To Stop Dating And Settle Down, According To The Math<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Ana Swason, Wonkblog): I\u2019ve posted something similar before. Always worth considering. By the way, this is probably different from when to stop dating and settle down according to your parents.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3><b>Why Do You Send This&nbsp;Email?<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the time of King David, the tribe of Issachar produced shrewd warriors \u201cwho understood the times and knew what Israel should do\u201d (1 Chron 12:32). In a similar way, we need to become wise people whose faith interacts with the world. I pray this email gives you greater insight, so that you may continue the tradition of Issachar.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Disclaimer<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chi Alpha is not a partisan organization. To paraphrase another minister: we are not about the donkey\u2019s agenda and we are not about the elephant\u2019s agenda \u2014 we are about the Lamb\u2019s agenda. Having said that, I read widely (in part because I believe we should aspire to pass <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/econlog.econlib.org\/archives\/2011\/06\/the_ideological.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the ideological Turing test<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and in part because I do not believe I can fairly say \u201cI agree\u201d or \u201cI disagree\u201d until I can say \u201cI understand\u201d) and may at times share articles that have a strong partisan bias simply because I find the article stimulating. The upshot: you should not assume I agree with everything an author says in an article I mention, much less things the author has said in other articles (although if I strongly disagree with something in the article I\u2019ll usually mention it).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Also, remember that I\u2019m not reporting news \u2014 I\u2019m giving you a selection of things I found interesting.
