A Former Muslim Weighs In.<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Dargan Thompson, Relevant Magazine): \u201cWhat I\u2019m saying is the foundations of Islam\u2014I\u2019m talking about the Quran and the life of Muhammed\u2014are very violent. Islam can be formulated in non-violent ways, but to do so, you have to depart from its foundations, as many Muslims do.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mormonperspectives.com\/2011\/02\/08\/religion-is-the-foundation-of-democracy-and-prosperity\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Religion is the Foundation of Democracy and Prosperity<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Clayton Christensen, Mormon Perspectives): the author, a Harvard professor, talks about a conversation he had with a friend, \u201cI learned the importance of religion for the strength of democracy and capitalism in a conversation 12 years ago with a Marxist economist from China who was nearing the end of a Fulbright Fellowship in Boston. I asked my friend if he had learned here anything that was surprising or unexpected. His response was immediate and, to me, quite profound: \u2018I had no idea how critical religion is to the functioning of democracy and capitalism.\u2019&nbsp;\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thepublicdiscourse.com\/2016\/03\/16657\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Personal Love and the Call to Chastity<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Samantha Schroeder, The Public Discourse): there is a lot I like and a&nbsp;lot I don\u2019t like about this article.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.christianitytoday.com\/ct\/2016\/march-web-only\/heres-every-biblical-reference-in-hamilton.html?paging=off\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here\u2019s Every Biblical Reference in \u2018Hamilton\u2019<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Alissa Wilkinson, Christianity Today): of interest to the Hamilton fanatics who seem to abound in Chi&nbsp;Alpha.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3><b>Why Do You Send This&nbsp;Email?<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the time of King David, the tribe of Issachar produced shrewd warriors \u201cwho understood the times and knew what Israel should do\u201d (1 Chron 12:32). In a similar way, we need to become wise people whose faith interacts with the world. I pray this email gives you greater insight, so that you may continue the tradition of Issachar.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Disclaimer<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chi Alpha is not a partisan organization. To paraphrase another minister: we are not about the donkey\u2019s agenda and we are not about the elephant\u2019s agenda \u2014 we are about the Lamb\u2019s agenda. Having said that, I read widely (in part because I believe we should aspire to pass <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/econlog.econlib.org\/archives\/2011\/06\/the_ideological.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the ideological Turing test<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and in part because I do not believe I can fairly say \u201cI agree\u201d or \u201cI disagree\u201d until I can say \u201cI understand\u201d) and may at times share articles that have a strong partisan bias simply because I find the article stimulating. The upshot: you should not assume I agree with everything an author says in an article I mention, much less things the author has said in other articles (although if I strongly disagree with something in the article I\u2019ll usually mention it).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Also, remember that I\u2019m not reporting news \u2014 I\u2019m giving you a selection of things I found interesting.
