The problem, though, is that messing with the way that people communicate with one another isn\u2019t symbolic. It\u2019s deeply literal.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/nymag.com\/scienceofus\/2016\/07\/whats-missing-from-the-conversation-about-transgender-kids.html\">What\u2019s Missing From The Conversation About Transgender Kids<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Jesse Singal, New York Magazine): t<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">his one is an important read \u2014 the pro-LGBT author is concerned with the way science is being ignored when trying to help&nbsp;kids who think they were born the wrong gender. I shared a <a href=\"http:\/\/glenandpaula.com\/wordpress\/archives\/2016\/05\/20\/things-glen-found-interesting-volume-50\">related article by the same author back in volume 50<\/a>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2016\/07\/17\/opinion\/sunday\/its-ok-liberal-parents-you-can-freak-out-about-porn.html?smid=tw-share&amp;_r=0\">It\u2019s O.K., Liberal Parents, You Can Freak Out About Porn<\/a> (Judith Shulevitz, NY Times): \u201cLeft-leaning parents shy away from a cause they identify with right-wing culture warriors, but I challenge any parent to affirm that it\u2019s O.K. for her kids to become digital porn consumers at 11, the average age of a child\u2019s first encounter.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>Something Glen Found Amusing<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/awakenwithjp\/videos\/1381220731893785\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What I Love About The Olympics<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Ultra Spiritual Life): this is a video. 3.5 minutes of brutal commentary. \u201cRace walking. Now this is a sport that makes sense. Who can go the fastest at not going their fastest? It\u2019s like who can be the best at mediocrity. So paradoxical. I love&nbsp;it.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><b>Why Do You Send This&nbsp;Email?<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>In the time of King David, the tribe of Issachar produced shrewd warriors \u201cwho understood the times and knew what Israel should do\u201d (1 Chron 12:32). In a similar way, we need to become wise people whose faith interacts with the world. I pray this email gives you greater insight, so that you may continue the tradition of Issachar.<\/p>\n<h3><b>Disclaimer<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>Chi Alpha is not a partisan organization. To paraphrase another minister: we are not about the donkey\u2019s agenda and we are not about the elephant\u2019s agenda \u2014 we are about the Lamb\u2019s agenda. Having said that, I read widely (in part because I believe we should aspire to pass <a href=\"http:\/\/econlog.econlib.org\/archives\/2011\/06\/the_ideological.html\">the ideological Turing test<\/a> and in part because I do not believe I can fairly say \u201cI agree\u201d or \u201cI disagree\u201d until I can say \u201cI understand\u201d) and may at times share articles that have a strong partisan bias simply because I find the article stimulating. The upshot: you should not assume I agree with everything an author says in an article I mention, much less things the author has said in other articles (although if I strongly disagree with something in the article I\u2019ll usually mention it).<\/p>\n<p>Also, remember that I\u2019m not reporting news \u2014 I\u2019m giving you a selection of things I found interesting.
