Movsesian, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">First Things) and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/opinions\/donald-trumps-good-political-timing\/2016\/08\/15\/21a0e264-6301-11e6-96c0-37533479f3f5_story.html?utm_term=.91901220ef24\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Trump\u2019s Good Political Timing: Younger Americans Are Shunning Democracy<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Catherine Rampbell, Washington Pos<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">t): this is, frankly, terrifying. Probably also an inevitable consequence of our culture abandoning the Christian belief in depravity.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.theamericanconservative.com\/dreher\/cnn-louisiana-flood-national-media-cbs\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What The Hell Is Wrong With The National Media?<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Rod Dreher, The American Conservative): I was in Louisiana when the rains came. It was shocking how much water fell in a short time. The scope of the disaster is staggering, and it is surprising that it took media organizations so long to notice it. Sean Illing at Salon has a similar article up: <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.salon.com\/2016\/08\/16\/louisianas-quiet-crisis-cable-news-and-the-folly-of-disaster-porn-coverage\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Louisiana\u2019s Quiet Crisis: Cable News and the Folly of Disaster Porn Coverage<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Articles like this are beginning to multiply, but attention is still scant (although it seems to be slowly turning around). For an even saltier read, consider Dreher\u2019s <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.theamericanconservative.com\/dreher\/obama-national-media-louisiana\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">more recent column<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. I include these links in part because they are a useful reminder that what appears in the media is not what is happening, but rather what media personnel are (a) aware is happening and (b) deem important.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/aeon.co\/essays\/the-sex-trade-can-never-be-legalised-without-hurting-women\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Prostitution Is Not Sex Work<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Kat Banyard, Aeon): \u201cMen who pay for sex are not helplessly reacting to uncontainable sexual urges. Nor does the prostitution trade represent \u2018a place of last resort\u2019 for them. In a similar way, we need to become wise people whose faith interacts with the world. I pray this email gives you greater insight, so that you may continue the tradition of Issachar.<\/p>\n<h3><b>Disclaimer<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>Chi Alpha is not a partisan organization. Having said that, I read widely (in part because I believe we should aspire to pass <a href=\"http:\/\/econlog.econlib.org\/archives\/2011\/06\/the_ideological.html\">the ideological Turing test<\/a> and in part because I do not believe I can fairly say \u201cI agree\u201d or \u201cI disagree\u201d until I can say \u201cI understand\u201d) and may at times share articles that have a strong partisan bias simply because I find the article stimulating. The upshot: you should not assume I agree with everything an author says in an article I mention, much less things the author has said in other articles (although if I strongly disagree with something in the article I\u2019ll usually mention it).<\/p>\n<p>Also, remember that I\u2019m not reporting news \u2014 I\u2019m giving you a selection of things I found interesting.
