There is no doubt more to be said on&nbsp;this.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/slatestarcodex.com\/2016\/11\/16\/you-are-still-crying-wolf\/\">You Are Still Crying Wolf<\/a> (Scott Alexander, SlateStarCodex): \u201cI realize that all of this is going to make me sound like a crazy person and put me completely at odds with every respectable thinker in the media, but luckily, being a crazy person at odds with every respectable thinker in the media has been a pretty good ticket to predictive accuracy lately, so whatever.\u201d This is a long and detailed argument that Trump is not racist (or at least not more racist than lots of&nbsp;people). I was surprised at how well it held my interest. (I Hope I\u2019m Wrong.)<\/a> (Tyler Cowen, Bloomberg View).&nbsp;If you read one, read all&nbsp;three.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/deadline.com\/2016\/11\/shocked-by-trump-new-york-times-finds-time-for-soul-searching-1201852490\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Stunned By Trump, The New York Times Finds Time For Some Soul-Searching<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Michael Cieply, Deadspin): \u201cBy and large, talented reporters scrambled to match stories with what internally was often called \u2018the narrative.\u2019 We were occasionally asked to map a narrative for our various beats a year in advance, square the plan with editors, then generate stories that fit the pre-designated line.\u201d This piece is important and depressing.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/marginalrevolution.com\/marginalrevolution\/2016\/11\/coalition-diversity-whose-diversity-diversity-just-win.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The coalition for diversity whose diversity did diversity just win?<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Tyler Cowen, Marginal Revolution): do not let the confusing title put you off. Cowen argues that the Republicans are in some senses significantly more diverse than the Democrats.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/mereorthodoxy.com\/never-trump-evangelicals-president-trump\/?utm_source=dlvr.it&amp;utm_medium=twitter\">#NeverTrump And President Trump<\/a> (Jake Meador, Mere Orthodoxy): \u201cThe church\u2019s greatest theologians have long said that a properly Christian commonwealth will be concerned not with the greater good\u2014the most good for the most people\u2014or with the private good of Christians alone, but with the common good.\u201d<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/news\/dc-sports-bog\/wp\/2016\/11\/17\/on-media-bubbles-trumps-win-and-the-redskins-name-debate\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">How covering the Redskins name debate prepared me for Donald Trump\u2019s win<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Dan Steinberg, Was<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">hington Post): \u201cThey told me that media Twitter wasn\u2019t the real world, that it created a phony idea of consensus for a stance that wasn\u2019t actually ascendant. And they argued that a politically correct onslaught from big-city elites would only strengthen their convictions.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.vox.com\/world\/2016\/11\/10\/13577474\/president-elect-donald-trump-muslim-ban\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Donald Trump can absolutely ban Muslims from entering the US, without Congress<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Zack Beauchamp, Vox): \u201cI [asked] several experts on US immigration law. Their answer was unanimous: Trump would be able to implement his ban. In fact, he would be able to do it easily.\u201d I didn\u2019t know the president had this power. In a similar way, we need to become wise people whose faith interacts with the world. I pray this email gives you greater insight, so that you may continue the tradition of Issachar.<\/p>\n<h3><b>Disclaimer<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>Chi Alpha is not a partisan organization. To paraphrase another minister: we are not about the donkey\u2019s agenda and we are not about the elephant\u2019s agenda \u2014 we are about the Lamb\u2019s agenda. Having said that, I read widely (in part because I believe we should aspire to pass <a href=\"http:\/\/econlog.econlib.org\/archives\/2011\/06\/the_ideological.html\">the ideological Turing test<\/a> and in part because I do not believe I can fairly say \u201cI agree\u201d or \u201cI disagree\u201d until I can say \u201cI understand\u201d) and may at times share articles that have a strong partisan bias simply because I find the article stimulating. The upshot: you should not assume I agree with everything an author says in an article I mention, much less things the author has said in other articles (although if I strongly disagree with something in the article I\u2019ll usually mention it).<\/p>\n<p>Also, remember that I\u2019m not reporting news \u2014 I\u2019m giving you a selection of things I found interesting.
