Be sure to see the explanation and disclaimers at the bottom.<\/p>\n<h3>Things Glen Found Interesting<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.theamericanconservative.com\/articles\/white-christian-apocalypse\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">White Christian Apocalypse?<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Philip Jenkins, The American Conservative): Jenkins is a well-known historian. \u201cOn one critical issue, though, contemporary debate and theorizing really is trespassing on my areas of expertise.\u201d Jenkins unpacks some long-term trends and their implications for America\u2019s&nbsp;demographic destiny.&nbsp;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2016\/11\/20\/opinion\/sunday\/the-end-of-identity-liberalism.html?smid=tw-share\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The End of Identity Liberalism<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Mark Lilla, NY Times): One of the more insightful things I\u2019ve read lately. It\u2019s inspired by the&nbsp;recent election, but is about something much broader \u2014 some&nbsp;intrinsic weaknesses of identity politics. For a very strong reaction against it, read <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.lareviewofbooks.org\/essays\/making-white-supremacy-respectable\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Making White Supremacy Respectable. Again.<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Katherine Franke, LA Review of Books). Both authors are professors at Columbia, which will no doubt make for tense times in the faculty lounge.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/news\/monkey-cage\/wp\/2016\/11\/21\/yes-trump-will-build-his-border-wall-most-of-it-is-already-built\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Yes, Trump will build his border wall. Most of it is already built.<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Peter Andreas, Washington Post): \u201cIt is important to remember that Trump\u2019s predecessors carefully avoided calling any new border barriers a \u2018wall.\u2019\u201d Wow. I did not realize how much of the southern border is already barricaded. It would be helpful if reporters&nbsp;periodically brought this fact up for context.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.thegospelcoalition.org\/justintaylor\/2016\/11\/23\/trying-to-think-through-the-logic-of-abortion-rights\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Trying To Think Through The Logic Of Abortion Rights<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Justin Taylor, The Gospel Coalition): Taylor summarizes the arguments of two philosophy professors. For me, meditating on Luke 1:39\u201345 has been important when thinking about abortion.&nbsp;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.vox.com\/the-big-idea\/2016\/11\/21\/13693016\/assisted-suicide-referendums-philosophy\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Everyone should have the right to assisted suicide \u2014 or no one should<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Felicia Nimue Ackerman, Vox): \u201ca society that \u2018pathologizes\u2019 suicidal feelings of indignity and degradation in rape victims while endorsing them in the terminally ill is, I contend, engaging in a horrifying, odious form of bigotry.\u201d The author is a philosophy professor at&nbsp;Brown.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3><b>Why Do You Send This&nbsp;Email?<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>In the time of King David, the tribe of Issachar produced shrewd warriors \u201cwho understood the times and knew what Israel should do\u201d (1 Chron 12:32). In a similar way, we need to become wise people whose faith interacts with the world. I pray this email gives you greater insight, so that you may continue the tradition of Issachar.<\/p>\n<h3><b>Disclaimer<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>Chi Alpha is not a partisan organization. To paraphrase another minister: we are not about the donkey\u2019s agenda and we are not about the elephant\u2019s agenda \u2014 we are about the Lamb\u2019s agenda. Having said that, I read widely (in part because I believe we should aspire to pass <a href=\"http:\/\/econlog.econlib.org\/archives\/2011\/06\/the_ideological.html\">the ideological Turing test<\/a> and in part because I do not believe I can fairly say \u201cI agree\u201d or \u201cI disagree\u201d until I can say \u201cI understand\u201d) and may at times share articles that have a strong partisan bias simply because I find the article stimulating. The upshot: you should not assume I agree with everything an author says in an article I mention, much less things the author has said in other articles (although if I strongly disagree with something in the article I\u2019ll usually mention it).<\/p>\n<p>Also, remember that I\u2019m not reporting news \u2014 I\u2019m giving you a selection of things I found interesting.
