A readable summary from a few years back is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2006\/11\/07\/health\/07brain.html\">A Neuroscientific Look At Speaking In Tongues<\/a> (Benedict Carey, NYT) and also&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.dana.org\/News\/Speaking_in_Tongues__Glossalalia_and_Stress_Reduction\/\">Speaking in Tongues: Glossalalia and Stress Reduction<\/a> (The Dana Foundation). Two caveats: you should look up the name James E. Mitchell for context and there are surely those who testify differently than Khalid Sheikh Mohammed. Having said that\u2026 fascinating.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.tmatt.net\/columns\/2016\/11\/23\/religious-liberty-experts-stand-together-on-cases-inside-prison-walls\">Religious Liberty Experts Stand Together, on Cases Inside Prison Walls<\/a> (Terry Mattingly, On Religion): \u201cThere is space enough in our culture to allow different people with different beliefs to live peaceably in the same&nbsp;land.\u201d<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.politico.com\/story\/2016\/11\/art-sisneros-texas-electoral-college-resigns-231874\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Texas elector who criticized Trump says he\u2019s resigning<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Kyle Cheney, Politico): \u201cSince I can\u2019t in good conscience vote for Donald Trump, and yet have sinfully made a pledge that I would, the best option I see at this time is to resign my position as an Elector\u2026. I will sleep well at night knowing I neither gave in to [the people\u2019s] demands nor caved to my convictions. I will also mourn the loss of our republic.\u201d The elector is clearly a thoughtful Christian who made his decision very theologically. Even if you differ with his theology at points, applaud his consistency. Also note how much Politico edited out his theological convictions in their reporting \u2014 a very common occurrence in major media outlets.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/nypost.com\/2016\/12\/01\/gays-bias-and-phony-science\/\">Gays, Bias, And Phony Science<\/a> (Naomi Schaefer Riley, &nbsp;NY Post): \u201cIn the end, neither LaCour nor Hatzenbuehler actually did the work to prove their theses \u2014 because there would be no real consequences if they were caught, and anyway academia writ large didn\u2019t want to \u2018catch\u2019 them at&nbsp;all.\u201d<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/science\/archive\/2016\/11\/the-understudied-female-sexual-predator\/503492\/?utm_source=feed\">The Understudied Female Sexual Predator<\/a> (Conor Friederdorf, The Atlantic): \u201cIn incidents of sexual violence reported to the National Crime Victimization Survey, 38 percent of victims were&nbsp;men\u2026\u201d<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/bleacherreport.com\/articles\/2677700-cheat-or-go-home-inside-the-dysfunctional-hell-of-becoming-a-cfb-coach\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cheat or Go Home: Inside the \u2018Dysfunctional Hell\u2019 of Becoming a CFB Coach<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Matt Hayes, Bleacher Report): \u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Auburn officials have always denied it, the NCAA could never nail it down and the statute of limitations on infractions has long since passed. But here\u2019s the catch: I\u2019ve seen the ledger.\u201d Even if you don\u2019t like sports, this is a worthwhile read.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3><strong>Things Glen Found Amusing<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/imgur.com\/gallery\/4b4tR\">College Legends<\/a>&nbsp;\u2014 imagine&nbsp;a plaque commemorating&nbsp;your exploits \u2014 what would it say and where would it be posted?<\/span><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/babylonbee.com\/news\/us-christians-brace-brutal-onslaught-happy-holidays-attacks\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">U.S. Christians Brace For Brutal Onslaught of \u2018Happy Holidays\u2019 Attacks<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Babylon Bee)&nbsp;<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><b>Why Do You Send This&nbsp;Email?<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>In the time of King David, the tribe of Issachar produced shrewd warriors \u201cwho understood the times and knew what Israel should do\u201d (1 Chron 12:32). In a similar way, we need to become wise people whose faith interacts with the world. I pray this email gives you greater insight, so that you may continue the tradition of Issachar.<\/p>\n<h3><b>Disclaimer<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>Chi Alpha is not a partisan organization. To paraphrase another minister: we are not about the donkey\u2019s agenda and we are not about the elephant\u2019s agenda \u2014 we are about the Lamb\u2019s agenda. Having said that, I read widely (in part because I believe we should aspire to pass <a href=\"http:\/\/econlog.econlib.org\/archives\/2011\/06\/the_ideological.html\">the ideological Turing test<\/a> and in part because I do not believe I can fairly say \u201cI agree\u201d or \u201cI disagree\u201d until I can say \u201cI understand\u201d) and may at times share articles that have a strong partisan bias simply because I find the article stimulating. The upshot: you should not assume I agree with everything an author says in an article I mention, much less things the author has said in other articles (although if I strongly disagree with something in the article I\u2019ll usually mention it).<\/p>\n<p>Also, remember that I\u2019m not reporting news \u2014 I\u2019m giving you a selection of things I found interesting.
