Dana is a source of unenending amazement to me. This morning when she woke up we had the following conversation:<\/p>\n
\nMe: \u201cDana, did you have any dreams last night?\u201d
\nDana (in a little 19-month-old just-woke-up voice): \u201cDream?\u201d
\nMe: \u201cDreams are the pictures you see when you\u2019re sleeping and your eyes are closed.\u201d
\nDana: \u201cGoose.\u201d
\nMe: \u201cYou had a dream about a goose?\u201d
\nDana: \u201cYa.\u201d
\nMe: \u201cWhat did the goose do in your dream?\u201d
\nDana: \u201cHonk honk.\u201d <\/p><\/blockquote>\nI was melting. <\/p>\n
I had been trying to get her to understand the concept of dreams off and on for a few weeks now, and while she\u2019s always seemed interested she\u2019s never actually answered my question with anything other than \u201cya\u201d.<\/p>\n
In case you\u2019re skeptical, I\u2019m pretty sure she understood my question and did actually have a dream about a goose. She hasn\u2019t seen a goose in weeks (not even in her picture books). If one was on her mind it arrived there somehow other than a recent real-world experience.<\/p>\n
Besides which, she told mommy the same story, \u201cDream. Goose. Honk honk.\u201d when we went to get mommy up a few minutes later.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
