It is a construct that was created for polemical purposes.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/religionnews.com\/2017\/02\/01\/homeless-find-rest-in-faith-based-shelters-more-than-others\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Homeless Find Rest In Faith-Based Shelters More Than Others<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Adelle Banks, Religion News Service): \u201cIn a preliminary study of 11 U.S. cities, 58 percent of emergency beds for the homeless were at faith-based organizations. The two pieces I saw shared most by my thoughtful friends on social media are <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lawfareblog.com\/malevolence-tempered-incompetence-trumps-horrifying-executive-order-refugees-and-visas\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Malevolence Tempered by Incompetence: Trump\u2019s Horrifying Executive Order on Refugees and Visas<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Benjamin Wittes, Lawfare) and<\/span> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/article\/444370\/donald-trump-refugee-executive-order-no-muslim-ban-separating-fact-hysteria\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Trump\u2019s Executive Order on Refugees, Separating Fact from Hysteria<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (David French, National Review). They have tremendously undermined themselves.\u201d It\u2019s interesting to read <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/thecommonvision.org\/features\/fake-news-evangelicals\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fake News and Evangelicals<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Alex Wilgus, Common Vision) in conjunction with&nbsp;this.&nbsp;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/news\/acts-of-faith\/wp\/2017\/02\/01\/neil-gorsuch-belongs-to-a-notably-liberal-church-and-would-be-the-first-protestant-on-the-court-in-years\/?utm_term=.8c173021c36d\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Neil Gorsuch belongs to a notably liberal church \u2014 and would be the first Protestant on the Court in years<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Julie Zauzmer, Washington Post):&nbsp;He is Episcopal, yet many Episcopals (especially clergy) are opposed to his nomination, whereas evangelicals and Catholics are mostly delighted.&nbsp;<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>Things Glen Found Amusing\/Entertaining<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.smbc-comics.com\/comic\/the-multiverse-explained\">The multiverse explained<\/a> (SMBC)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=GRrqlGuH_Hs\">A remarkable volleyball rally<\/a> (YouTube, 45 seconds)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/stanfordflipside.com\/2017\/01\/democrat-who-just-showed-up-to-first-protest-doesnt-understand-why-its-platform-different-from-his\/\">Democrat Who Just Showed Up To First Protest Doesn\u2019t Understand Why Its Platform Is Different From His<\/a> (Flipside): \u201cI got to the protest, and there was this girl holding up a sign that said \u2018No Trump\u2019 and I was like, \u2018ok, cool\u2019. But then I kept reading, and saw it said \u2018No Imperialism\u2019, and I was confused for a bit, honestly not sure where I stand on that, but then I kept reading and it said \u2018No Capitalism\u2019 and that is where I decided that I\u2019d done enough reading for the&nbsp;day.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><b>Why Do You Send This&nbsp;Email?<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>In the time of King David, the tribe of Issachar produced shrewd warriors \u201cwho understood the times and knew what Israel should do\u201d (1 Chron 12:32). In a similar way, we need to become wise people whose faith interacts with the world. I pray this email gives you greater insight, so that you may continue the tradition of Issachar.<\/p>\n<h3><b>Disclaimer<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>Chi Alpha is not a partisan organization. To paraphrase another minister: we are not about the donkey\u2019s agenda and we are not about the elephant\u2019s agenda \u2014 we are about the Lamb\u2019s agenda. Having said that, I read widely (in part because I believe we should aspire to pass <a href=\"http:\/\/econlog.econlib.org\/archives\/2011\/06\/the_ideological.html\">the ideological Turing test<\/a> and in part because I do not believe I can fairly say \u201cI agree\u201d or \u201cI disagree\u201d until I can say \u201cI understand\u201d) and may at times share articles that have a strong partisan bias simply because I find the article stimulating. The upshot: you should not assume I agree with everything an author says in an article I mention, much less things the author has said in other articles (although if I strongly disagree with something in the article I\u2019ll usually mention it).<\/p>\n<p>Also, remember that I\u2019m not reporting news \u2014 I\u2019m giving you a selection of things I found interesting.
