And while some of these harms may be overcome by marijuana\u2019s benefits or curtailed by consuming pot without smoking it, the evidence shows that weed\u2019s reputation as a safe drug is undeserved.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/aeon.co\/essays\/this-is-what-slavery-looks-like-today-in-the-eyes-of-slavers?curator=MediaREDEF\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What do slaveholders think?<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Austin <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Choi-Fitzpatrick, Aeon): &nbsp;\u201cThe contemporary traffickers and slaveholders I spoke with are not motivated by a love of injustice. They are instead driven by cultural inertia, a desire for profit or, more frequently, a need for basic sustenance\u2026. All I can say is, if you think that was reactionary and oppressive, wait until you get a load of the world that comes after&nbsp;it.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2017\/04\/15\/opinion\/sunday\/charles-murrays-provocative-talk.html?smprod=nytcore-iphone&amp;smid=nytcore-iphone-share&amp;_r=1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Charles Murray\u2019s \u2018Provocative\u2019 Talk<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Wendy M. Williams and Stephen J. Ceci, NY Times): two Cornell professors \u201ctranscribed Mr. Murray\u2019s speech and \u2014 without indicating who wrote it \u2014 sent it to a group of 70 college professors (women and men, of different ranks, at different universities)\u2026 the 57 professors who responded to our request gave Mr. Murray\u2019s talk an average score of 5.05, or \u2018middle of the road.\u2019\u201d This, of course, is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/search?q=charles+murray+middlebury&amp;oq=charles+murray+middlebury\">the speech which faced a backlash resulting in a professor needing a neck brace<\/a>. Fascinating. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\/213720278\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This Is About That<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Andrew Wilson, Vimeo): this 3.5 minute video starts slow but ends strong. A meditation on the relationship between marriage and the gospel. Recommended.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/heterodoxacademy.org\/2017\/04\/17\/intersectionality-is-a-political-football-heres-why-it-doesnt-have-to-be\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Intersectionality Is a Political Football; Here\u2019s Why It Doesn\u2019t Have to Be<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Chris Martin, Heterodox Academy): \u201cProgressives have adopted an overambitious model of intersectionality in which everyone lies on axes of oppression, and I will explain this model\u2019s three flaws. In a similar way, we need to become wise people whose faith interacts with the world. The upshot: you should not assume I agree with everything an author says in an article I mention, much less things the author has said in other articles (although if I strongly disagree with something in the article I\u2019ll usually mention it).<\/p>\n<p>Also, remember that I\u2019m not reporting news \u2014 I\u2019m giving you a selection of things I found interesting.
