Lee.&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI am only somewhat troubled by the Lee monument\u2019s removal. That\u2019s not because of any sympathy for the Confederacy \u2014 it deserved to lose, and the suffering of the South in and after the war was, I believe, God\u2019s judgment on it for the sin of slavery\u2026. [nonetheless] Lee was a far more complex man than many people today seem to realize.\u201d&nbsp;(Dreher is also a Louisiana resident)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.scientificamerican.com\/observations\/college-freshmen-are-less-religious-than-ever\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">College Freshmen Are Less Religious Than Ever<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Allen Downey, Scientific American): \u201cMost of this growth [of \u2018no religious preference\u2019] comes at the expense of Catholicism, which dropped from 32 percent to 23 percent, and mainstream Protestant denominations including Baptists (from 17 percent to 7 percent), and Methodists (from 9 percent to 3 percent). At the same time the number of students choosing \u2018Other Christian\u2019 increased from 5 percent to 13 percent.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.theamericanconservative.com\/dreher\/uk-muslims-reported-abedi\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">UK Muslims Reported Abedi<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Rod Dreher, The American Conservative): \u201cWhat else would you have had these Muslims do? Sounds like they did exactly what they were supposed to do\u2026 [On the other hand] what more would you have authorities do? If he had not acted out\u2026 what do you do?\u201d Things are complex. And yes, this is the same Rod Dreher as in the second entry on this list. He\u2019s prolific.&nbsp;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S0191886917303148\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sexual regret in US and Norway: Effects of culture and individual differences in religiosity and mating strategy<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Bendixen, Asao, Wyckoff, Buss and Kennair, Personality and Individual Differences): <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&nbsp;From the abstract: \u201cMen were significantly less likely to regret having had casual sex than women and were significantly more likely to regret passing up casual sexual opportunities than women\u2026 Finally, North Americans and Norwegians did not differ significantly in overall amount of sexual regret nor in patterns of sex differences in sexual regret.\u201d I\u2019m always fascinated by gender differences that transcend cultures.&nbsp;<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>Things Glen Found Amusing<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/babylonbee.com\/news\/bible-college-freshman-provides-pastor-90-pages-helpful-notes-sermon\/\">Bible College Freshman Provides Pastor With 90 Pages Of Helpful Notes After Sermon<\/a> (Babylon Bee): I\u2019m not saying you could substitute a Stanford student into this story without changing it, but let the reader understand.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/stanfordflipside.com\/2017\/05\/stanford-psychology-department-encourages-students-to-respond-to-all-questions-using-week-numbers\/\">Stanford Psychology Department Encourages Students To Respond To All Questions Using Week Numbers<\/a> (Stanford Flipside): \u201cI just respond, \u2018Oh, it\u2019s week 7,\u2019 and everyone seems to understand exactly what I mean. It\u2019s utterly brilliant. It has saved my social life.\u2019\u201d<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/babylonbee.com\/news\/christians-beg-god-not-let-male-rompers-catch-among-worship-leaders\/\">Christians Beg God To Not Let Male Rompers Catch On Among Worship Leaders<\/a> (Babylon Bee)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/babylonbee.com\/news\/college-student-tithes-ramen\/\">College Student Tithes Ramen<\/a> (Babylon Bee)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/reformedroasters.com\/\">Reformed Roasters<\/a> (an actual thing, from what I can tell): \u201cThe Limited Atonement Roast is totally sufficient to appeal to everyone\u2019s tastes\u2026 it just doesn\u2019t.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><b>Why Do You Send This&nbsp;Email?<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>In the time of King David, the tribe of Issachar produced shrewd warriors \u201cwho understood the times and knew what Israel should do\u201d (1 Chron 12:32). In a similar way, we need to become wise people whose faith interacts with the world. I pray this email gives you greater insight, so that you may continue the tradition of Issachar.<\/p>\n<h3><b>Disclaimer<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>Chi Alpha is not a partisan organization. Having said that, I read widely (in part because I believe we should aspire to pass <a href=\"http:\/\/econlog.econlib.org\/archives\/2011\/06\/the_ideological.html\">the ideological Turing test<\/a> and in part because I do not believe I can fairly say \u201cI agree\u201d or \u201cI disagree\u201d until I can say \u201cI understand\u201d) and may at times share articles that have a strong partisan bias simply because I find the article stimulating. The upshot: you should not assume I agree with everything an author says in an article I mention, much less things the author has said in other articles (although if I strongly disagree with something in the article I\u2019ll usually mention it).<\/p>\n<p>Also, remember that I\u2019m not reporting news \u2014 I\u2019m giving you a selection of things I found interesting.
