Sev\u00aden\u00adteen years ago today my wife and I drove into Palo Alto in a rent\u00aded yel\u00adlow Penske truck. God had called us to min\u00adis\u00adter to Stan\u00adford Uni\u00adver\u00adsi\u00adty and we were report\u00ading for duty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The years since then haven\u2019t always been easy, but they have been extreme\u00adly reward\u00ading. Here are some thoughts run\u00adning through my mind on this anniver\u00adsary:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. God does the work.<\/strong> I remem\u00adber sit\u00adting down with a stu\u00addent a few months ago. She had sought me out after com\u00ading to faith through read\u00ading. She had nev\u00ader been to a Chi Alpha wor\u00adship ser\u00advice. She had nev\u00ader heard me preach. She had just spent time think\u00ading and read\u00ading. Even\u00adtu\u00adal\u00adly she was con\u00advinced and her life was changed. So many of the best things we\u2019ve seen hap\u00adpen in min\u00adistry have hap\u00adpened inde\u00adpen\u00addent\u00adly of any plan or effort of ours. God does the work and gra\u00adcious\u00adly invites us to tag along.<\/li>
  2. Uni\u00adver\u00adsi\u00adty min\u00adistry real\u00adly does touch the world. <\/strong>Last year, Paula hung a map on our wall and we began putting a dot on the map when\u00adev\u00ader an inter\u00adna\u00adtion\u00adal stu\u00addent ate a meal in our home. In one year we had over 50 inter\u00adna\u00adtion\u00adal stu\u00addents from over 25 nations sit down to eat with us. In Acts 19:9\u201310 we read that because Paul spent two years min\u00adis\u00adter\u00ading dai\u00adly at an edu\u00adca\u00adtion\u00adal insti\u00adtu\u00adtion \u201call the Jews and Greeks who lived in the province of Asia heard the word of the Lord.\u201d That strat\u00ade\u00adgy still works today.<\/li>
  3. Uni\u00adver\u00adsi\u00adty min\u00adistry real\u00adly does build god\u00adly lead\u00aders. <\/strong>By my count, we have alum\u00adni work\u00ading in the gov\u00adern\u00adments of three nations, we\u2019ve got alum\u00adni serv\u00ading as pro\u00adfes\u00adsors at five uni\u00adver\u00adsi\u00adties (includ\u00ading three pro\u00adfes\u00adsors at Stan\u00adford), we\u2019ve had two alum\u00adni make the Forbes \u201c30 Under 30\u201d list, one make the MIT Tech\u00adnol\u00ado\u00adgy Review\u2019s \u201c35 Inno\u00adva\u00adtors Under 35\u201d list, sev\u00ader\u00adal serv\u00ading as pas\u00adtors and mis\u00adsion\u00adar\u00adies, and many more doing amaz\u00ading things all over the world. Some of these alum\u00adni came to Christ through our min\u00adistry while oth\u00aders were dis\u00adci\u00adpled in their exist\u00ading faith. We are thrilled at all God has done in them and in awe of what He is doing through them.<\/li>
  4. We could\u00adn\u2019t have done it alone. <\/strong>I\u2019ve got to extend a huge thank YOU to every\u00adone who has sup\u00adport\u00aded us in our min\u00adistry. We are so grate\u00adful to every\u00adone who has prayed for us, to all the staff who have worked along\u00adside us, to the gen\u00ader\u00adous peo\u00adple who have giv\u00aden to help make this min\u00adistry pos\u00adsi\u00adble, and to the stu\u00addents who have par\u00adtic\u00adi\u00adpat\u00aded in our min\u00adistry. None of this could have hap\u00adpened with\u00adout your part\u00adner\u00adship. We are grate\u00adful to you and also grate\u00adful to God for you.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    So any\u00adway, that\u2019s what I\u2019m think\u00ading about after sev\u00aden\u00adteen years of min\u00adistry on the Farm. I\u2019m excit\u00aded to see what God does over the next sev\u00aden\u00adteen!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
