Is that a UK thing? What Cum\u00admings and John\u00adson believe is that the E.U., far from being an engine for lib\u00ader\u00adal progress, has, through its over\u00adreach and hubris, actu\u00adal\u00adly become a major cause of the rise of the far right across the Con\u00adti\u00adnent. By forc\u00ading many very dif\u00adfer\u00adent coun\u00adtries into one increas\u00ading\u00adly pow\u00ader\u00adful Euro\u00adcrat\u00adic rubric, the E.U. has spawned a nation\u00adal\u00adist reac\u00adtion.\u201d This one is long but real\u00adly good. Sim\u00adi\u00adlar\u00adly Messrs Kass\u00ader and Shel\u00addon found that peo\u00adple who spent more time with their fam\u00adi\u00adlies or engag\u00ading in reli\u00adgious prac\u00adtices tend\u00aded to have a bet\u00adter time of things. The crowd\u00adsourced study is a dra\u00admat\u00adic demon\u00adstra\u00adtion of an idea that\u2019s been wide\u00adly dis\u00adcussed in light of the repro\u00adducibil\u00adi\u00adty crisis\u2014the notion that sub\u00adjec\u00adtive deci\u00adsions researchers make while design\u00ading their stud\u00adies can have an enor\u00admous impact on their observed results. Whether through p\u2011hacking or via the choic\u00ades they make as they wan\u00adder the gar\u00adden of fork\u00ading paths, researchers may inten\u00adtion\u00adal\u00adly or inad\u00adver\u00adtent\u00adly nudge their results toward a par\u00adtic\u00adu\u00adlar con\u00adclu\u00adsion.\u201d I don\u2019t think this is sur\u00adpris\u00ading to any\u00adone who knows many sci\u00aden\u00adtists, but it\u2019s def\u00adi\u00adnite\u00adly inter\u00adest\u00ading.<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/quillette.com\/2019\/12\/07\/are-we-in-the-midst-of-a-transgender-murder-epidemic\/\">Are We in the Midst of a Trans\u00adgen\u00adder Mur\u00adder Epi\u00addem\u00adic?<\/a> (Will\u00adfred Reil\u00adly, Quil\u00adlette): \u201cThe Human Rights Cam\u00adpaign main\u00adtains a year-by-year data\u00adbase con\u00adtain\u00ading every known case of a trans\u00adgen\u00adder indi\u00advid\u00adual being killed by vio\u00adlent means, and gives this num\u00adber as 29 in 2017, 26 in 2018, and 22 in 2019. Not only do these fig\u00adures not reflect a year-by-year increase in attacks on trans persons\u2014they are remark\u00adably con\u00adsis\u00adtent, and may be trend\u00ading slight\u00adly downwards\u2014they also indi\u00adcate that the trans mur\u00adder rate is sig\u00adnif\u00adi\u00adcant\u00adly low\u00ader than the mur\u00adder rate for Amer\u00adi\u00adcans over\u00adall.\u201d Any num\u00adber of mur\u00adders is too many. Still, I found this inter\u00adest\u00ading because I hear the con\u00adtrary so often. In light of the pre\u00advi\u00adous arti\u00adcle, if you know oppos\u00ading research I\u2019d like to see it.
