While the mea\u00adsures were protest\u00aded by some cit\u00adi\u00adzens, the quar\u00adan\u00adtine went ahead. It is report\u00aded that with\u00adin 72 hours of the parade, every bed in Philadelphia\u2019s 31 hos\u00adpi\u00adtals was filled, and in the week end\u00ading Octo\u00adber 5th, 1918, 2,600 peo\u00adple in Philadel\u00adphia had died, with the fig\u00adure almost dou\u00adbling a week lat\u00ader.
