Intelligence is considered such a basic measure of human worth that to dismiss someone as unintelligent seems like consigning them into the outer darkness.\u201d&nbsp;<ul><li>Normally the best thing about Alexander\u2019s blog is his book reviews. This one was just okay (smart and well-written but not astounding) and then all of a sudden he turned his rant up to 11. Hang in until you reach the phrase \u201cchild prison.\u201d If you\u2019re not sold at that point, stop reading.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/andrewsullivan.substack.com\/p\/the-majority-minority-myth-d17?token=eyJ1c2VyX2lkIjoxMzIyMjQyLCJwb3N0X2lkIjozMjYyNTEzOCwiXyI6IjdTUFpoIiwiaWF0IjoxNjEzNzY0NzYwLCJleHAiOjE2MTM3NjgzNjAsImlzcyI6InB1Yi02MTM3MSIsInN1YiI6InBvc3QtcmVhY3Rpb24ifQ.2e3pNlB59qYdkC8U0z2TQGoQvYJgGA1N5p41qjT0dt8\">The \u201cMajority-Minority\u201d Myth<\/a> (Andrew Sullivan, Substack): \u201cMost demographic estimates of the \u2018white\u2019 population are based on the Census definition: \u2018non-Hispanic white.\u2019 But what of \u2018Hispanic whites\u2019 \u2014 those whose lineage may come from South or Latin America in ethnicity but who also identify racially and socially as white? If you include them in this category, America remains two-thirds \u2018white\u2019 all the way through 2060 and beyond.\u201d A fascinating read.<\/li><li><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/witnesses-recall-massacre-axum-ethiopia-fa1b531fea069aed6768409bd1d20bfa\">\u2018Horrible\u2019: Witnesses recall massacre in Ethiopian holy city<\/a> (Cara Anna, Associated Press): \u201cBodies with gunshot wounds lay in the streets for days in Ethiopia\u2019s holiest city. At night, residents listened in horror as hyenas fed on the corpses of people they knew. But they were forbidden from burying their dead by the invading Eritrean soldiers.\u2026 some 800 people were killed that weekend at the church and around the&nbsp;city.\u201d<\/li><li><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tabletmag.com\/sections\/arts-letters\/articles\/natan-sharansky-doublethink\">The Doublethinkers <\/a>(Natan Sharansky with Gil Troy, Tablet Magazine):&nbsp; \u201cStep by liberating step, I was running toward freedom. By the time I was imprisoned in 1977, I had been free for at least four years. As thrilling as it was to be released from prison after nine long years in 1986, leaving the prison of doublethink years earlier made me even more euphoric.\u201d The author has had quite the life \u2014 beginning as a scientist in Soviet Russia, becoming a dissident, and then eventually <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Natan_Sharansky\">reaching Israel and becoming a politician<\/a>. <ul><li>Related: <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nymag.com\/intelligencer\/2021\/02\/gina-carano-mandalorian-fired-hollywood-blacklist-mccarthyism.html\">Firing Actors for Being Conservative Is Another Hollywood Blacklist<\/a> (Jonathan Chait, New York Magazine): \u201cWhat\u2019s most striking about the news coverage of Carano\u2019s defenestration is the utter absence of any scrutiny of her employer or her (now-former) agency. The tone of the reporting simply conveys her posts as though they were a series of petty crimes, the punishment of which is inevitable and self-evidently justified. In this environment, people\u2019s worth as human beings, and the degree to which they deserve to be treated with dignity and respect, is determined by the color of their&nbsp;skin.\u201d&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/frenchpress.thedispatch.com\/p\/you-are-one-step-away-from-complete\">\u2018You Are One Step Away from Complete and Total Insanity\u2019<\/a> (David French, The Dispatch): \u201cThis has been a difficult newsletter to write. I\u2019ve had to confront my own negligence. I\u2019m a Christian writer and journalist, and I paid insufficient attention to Thompson\u2019s initial claims. I was only vaguely aware of her allegations at the time, and had I dug down into the story, it would have been obvious that Zacharias\u2019s account had serious problems. It is no excuse to say that I can\u2019t cover everything. I should have covered this.
