In case you haven\u2019t heard, the Epis\u00adco\u00adpal Church in Amer\u00adi\u00adca just elect\u00aded its first female pri\u00admate ever \u2014 Katharine Jef\u00adferts Schori<\/a>. That\u2019s not the source of my sor\u00adrow \u2014 I firm\u00adly believe in the min\u00adistry of women (as does my denom\u00adi\u00adna\u00adtion<\/a>).<\/p>\n Here\u2019s where the sor\u00adrow comes in: she\u2019s appar\u00adent\u00adly an advo\u00adcate of ordain\u00ading open\u00adly gay priests and bish\u00adops. So her elec\u00adtion was sort of a slap in the face to the world\u00adwide Angli\u00adcan com\u00admu\u00adnion, a sig\u00adnif\u00adi\u00adcant por\u00adtion of which seems pre\u00adpared to write Ich\u00ada\u00adbod<\/a> over the door of the Epis\u00adco\u00adpalian church.<\/p>\n After the usu\u00adal sigh that escapes my lips when see\u00ading the Epis\u00adco\u00adpal church in the head\u00adlines, one detail leapt out at me: Bish\u00adop Schori grad\u00adu\u00adat\u00aded with a degree in biol\u00ado\u00adgy from Stan\u00adford in 1974.
