I was bit\u00adter\u00adly dis\u00adap\u00adpoint\u00aded at the ref\u00ader\u00adence sec\u00adtion at Bere\u00adan Chris\u00adt\u00adian Store<\/a> in San Jose. I had gone in with a coupon fig\u00adur\u00ading I\u2019d pick up a sweet and expen\u00adsive com\u00admen\u00adtary at reduced rate. After scour\u00ading the com\u00admen\u00adtary sec\u00adtion I con\u00adclud\u00aded that there was not one sin\u00adgle com\u00admen\u00adtary in the store worth own\u00ading.<\/p>\n

It made me very, very sad. I hate to be one of those min\u00adis\u00adters who is always whin\u00ading about how Chris\u00adt\u00adian book stores are dumb\u00ading down the faith, but I was almost sick inside at the low qual\u00adi\u00adty of the books on offer.<\/p>\n

As I was on my way out, I noticed Break\u00ading The Mis\u00adsion\u00adal Code<\/a> was for sale. Since I had a coupon and the book had been rec\u00adom\u00admend\u00aded to me by sev\u00ader\u00adal friends and I did\u00adn\u2019t want to leave bit\u00adter at the store, I picked it up.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s an easy read and I was gen\u00ader\u00adal\u00adly appre\u00adcia\u00adtive of their thoughts (espe\u00adcial\u00adly their warn\u00ading to the rapid\u00adly swelling mis\u00adsion\u00adal net\u00adworks to not neglect tra\u00addi\u00adtion\u00adal mis\u00adsions in favor of church plant\u00adi\u00adng), and I was almost done with it when I got suck\u00ader\u00adpunched at the end.<\/p>\n

A recent devel\u00adop\u00adment in church plant\u00adi\u00adng is that of plant\u00adi\u00adng church\u00ades on or near col\u00adlege cam\u00adpus\u00ades. Lead\u00aders are dis\u00adcov\u00ader\u00ading that when church\u00ades are plant\u00aded on cam\u00adpus they are more strate\u00adgic at reach\u00ading unreached and dis\u00adcon\u00adnect\u00aded peo\u00adple on the col\u00adlege cam\u00adpus. They rep\u00adre\u00adsent a shift from col\u00adlege and cam\u00adpus min\u00adistries that focus on those who already embrace the faith<\/strong> to that of plant\u00adi\u00adng the gospel among those who have nev\u00ader or sel\u00addom heard.

I think per\u00adhaps the authors mis\u00adun\u00adder\u00adstand what cam\u00adpus min\u00adistries do. And they also over\u00ades\u00adti\u00admate the abil\u00adi\u00adty of church\u00ades to thrive on the col\u00adlege cam\u00adpus \u2014 some cam\u00adpus\u00ades are very reach\u00adable that way and oth\u00aders are not. It\u2019s a tool in our tool\u00adbox for reach\u00ading col\u00adle\u00adgians, not a replace\u00adment tool\u00adbox.<\/p>\n
