In other words, I\u2019ve done the equivalent of working on this email daily for a year. In reality I just add a little bit every day as I\u2019m reading things, but it\u2019s still a big statistic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Things Glen Found Interesting<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"simple-list wp-block-list\"><li><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.commonsense.news\/p\/im-30-the-sexual-revolution-shackled?utm_source=%2Finbox&amp;utm_medium=reader2\" target=\"_blank\">I\u2019m 30. The Sexual Revolution Shackled My Generation<\/a>. (Louise Perry, Bari Weiss\u2019s Substack): \u201cWe need to re-erect the social guard rails that have been torn down. To do that, we have to start by stating the obvious: Sex must be taken seriously. Men and women are different. Some desires are bad. Consent is not enough. Violence is not love. Loveless sex is not empowering. People are not products. Marriage is good. And, above all, listen to your mother.\u201d<ul><li>Warning: the header picture is risque but the article is worth it. The author is not a Christian and unsurprisingly comes to some non-Christian conclusions \u2014 still fascinating to see a forceful secular rejection of the sexual revolution.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>Racism-related:<ul><li><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2022\/08\/19\/us\/black-couple-home-appraisal-lawsuit-reaj\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\">Black couple sues after they say home valuation rises nearly $300,000 when shown by White colleague<\/a>&nbsp;(Justin Gamble and Virginia Langmaid, CNN): \u201cConnolly and Mott later re-applied with another lender, and \u2018whitewashed\u2019 their home, according to the lawsuit. This included removing photos of their Black family from the home, and having a White colleague present the property to the appraiser. The suit claims this valuation came back at $750,000, more than a quarter of a million dollars higher than 20\/20 Valuations\u2019 appraisal of $472,000.\u201d<\/li><li><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/business\/story\/2022-08-22\/california-racial-discrimination-cases\" target=\"_blank\">In California\u2019s largest race bias cases, Latino workers are accused of abusing Black colleagues<\/a>&nbsp;(Margot Roosevelt, Los Angeles Times): \u201cThough the agency tracks the race and ethnicity of victims, it does not compile official statistics on offenders. Nor are there databases of private cases categorized by perpetrators\u2019 race. This makes it hard to gauge the extent of anti-Black hostility from Latino workers. But court filings, victims\u2019 allegations and employer records show that in the last decade, about a third of anti-Black bias suits filed by the EEOC\u2019s Los Angeles and San Francisco offices involved discrimination by Latinos, about a third involved white offenders and a third were unspecific.\u201d<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/frenchpress.thedispatch.com\/p\/christian-political-ethics-are-upside?utm_source=%2Finbox&amp;utm_medium=reader2\" target=\"_blank\">Christian Political Ethics Are Upside Down<\/a>&nbsp;(David French, The Dispatch): \u201c\u2026both the Republican and Democratic parties are utterly dependent upon their most devout members for their electoral success.&nbsp;As I\u2019ve noted before, nonwhite Democrats (and especially black Democrats) are among the most God-fearing, churchgoing members of American society. At the same time, the Republican Party would be irrelevant without its own white Evangelical base. The bottom line is that Christians in both parties have absolute veto power over (at the very least) the party\u2019s national candidates.\u201d<\/li><li><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/uk.news.yahoo.com\/silent-crisis-soaring-excess-deaths-203000290.html?guccounter=2&amp;guce_referrer=aHR0cHM6Ly9mZWVkbHkuY29tLw&amp;guce_referrer_sig=AQAAAEBXX_sQ4jwYpnnX49Bgiug8mXM68JtrSdyHyYiJA5iXW6C2V4P-gxcCLsg2w_8QxzcTYx9Hg1cBkLiJL1lvRL_YJvQto98fClP5AwxT4yL0KoUYKN7WZXPG5AJAAD-WWo4ejMhM_oHrBXXwVXB_FYpIMGLr1NeRnlO71kiQ-qVi\" target=\"_blank\">Silent crisis of soaring excess deaths gripping Britain is only tip of the iceberg<\/a>&nbsp;(Sarah Knapton, The Telegraph via Yahoo News): \u201cFor 14 of the past 15 weeks, England and Wales have averaged around 1,000 extra deaths each week,&nbsp;none of which are due to Covid. If the current trajectory continues, the number of non-Covid excess deaths will soon&nbsp;outstrip deaths from the virus&nbsp;this year \u2013 and be even more deadly than the omicron wave. So what is going on? Experts believe decisions taken by the Government in the earliest stages of the pandemic may now be coming back to bite. Policies that kept people indoors,&nbsp;scared them away from hospitals&nbsp;and deprived them of treatment and primary care are finally taking their&nbsp;toll.\u201d<\/li><li><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/interactive\/2022\/08\/14\/business\/worker-productivity-tracking.html\" target=\"_blank\">The Rise of the Worker Productivity Score<\/a>&nbsp;(Jodi Kantor&nbsp;and Arya Sundaram, New York Times): \u201c\u2026two years ago, her employer started requiring chaplains to accrue more of what it called \u2018productivity points.\u2019 A visit to the dying: as little as one point. Participating in a funeral: one and three-quarters points. A phone call to grieving relatives: one-quarter point.\u201d<\/li><li><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/experimentalhistory.substack.com\/p\/good-conversations-have-lots-of-doorknobs\" target=\"_blank\">Good conversations have lots of doorknobs<\/a>&nbsp;(Adam&nbsp;Mastroianni, Substack): \u201cConversational affordances are things like digressions and confessions and bold claims that beg for a rejoinder. Talking to another person is like rock climbing, except you are my rock wall and I am yours. If you reach up, I can grab onto your hand, and we can both hoist ourselves skyward. Maybe that\u2019s why a really good conversation feels a little bit like floating. The surveillance footage shows the female picking up a church collection plate. Police say she took it as a souvenir.\u201d The headline made me think this would be a heartwarming story of faith. In a similar way, we need to become wise people whose faith interacts with the world.
