Glo\u00adri\u00adfy\u00ading God and Glo\u00adri\u00adfy\u00ading Moun\u00adtains<\/a> (Tim Chal\u00adlies, per\u00adson\u00adal blog): \u201cAs I drove along the road I couldn\u2019t help but notice how many peo\u00adple put them\u00adselves between the cam\u00adera and the moun\u00adtain so that the moun\u00adtain was mere\u00adly a prop, the back\u00addrop for a pho\u00adto that fea\u00adtured them\u00adselves. Often these influ\u00adencers would be doing some\u00adthing showy or wear\u00ading some\u00adthing skimpy that was meant to draw the eye to them\u00adselves rather than to the moun\u00adtain behind. They made them\u00adselves the focus of the pho\u00adto\u00adgraph rather than the moun\u00adtain. They stole the glo\u00adry of the moun\u00adtain by using it to glo\u00adri\u00adfy them\u00adselves. And this helps us under\u00adstand how we can fail to glo\u00adri\u00adfy God. We place our\u00adselves in the fore\u00adground so that God winds up in the back\u00adground.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n

A sin\u00adgle reform that could save 100,000 lives imme\u00addi\u00adate\u00adly<\/a> (Ned Brooks and ML Cavanaugh, LA Times): \u201cThe head of the Nation\u00adal Kid\u00adney Foun\u00adda\u00adtion tes\u00adti\u00adfied in March that Medicare spends an esti\u00admat\u00aded $136 bil\u00adlion, near\u00adly 25% of its expen\u00addi\u00adtures, on the care of peo\u00adple with a kid\u00adney dis\u00adease. Of that, $50 bil\u00adlion is spent on peo\u00adple with end-stage kid\u00adney dis\u00adease, on par with the entire U.S. Marine Corps bud\u00adget.\u2026 The Nation\u00adal Organ Trans\u00adplant Act pro\u00adhibits com\u00adpen\u00adsat\u00ading kid\u00adney donors, which is strange in that in Amer\u00adi\u00adcan soci\u00adety, it\u2019s com\u00admon to pay for plas\u00adma, bone mar\u00adrow, hair, sperm, eggs and even sur\u00adro\u00adgate preg\u00adnan\u00adcies. We already pay to cre\u00adate and sus\u00adtain life. Anoth\u00ader way to think about this, as one bioethi\u00adcist points out: \u2018Every per\u00adson in the chain of liv\u00ading organ dona\u00adtion, except one, prof\u00adits.\u2019 The hos\u00adpi\u00adtal gets paid, the doc\u00adtors and nurs\u00ades and staff get paid, the phar\u00adma\u00adceu\u00adti\u00adcal indus\u00adtry gets paid and the recip\u00adi\u00adent is the main ben\u00ade\u00adfi\u00adcia\u00adry. Every\u00adone ben\u00ade\u00adfits except the donors, who get reim\u00adbursed only for their expens\u00ades.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n

It is polite and dig\u00adni\u00adfy\u00ading to \u2018address peo\u00adple as they request,\u2019 Pack\u00ader wrote, but equi\u00adty lan\u00adguage isn\u2019t organ\u00adic; it\u2019s being \u2018hand\u00aded down in com\u00admu\u00adniqu\u00e9s writ\u00adten by obscure \u2018experts\u2019 who pur\u00adport to speak for vague\u00adly defined \u2018com\u00admu\u00adni\u00adties,\u2019 remain\u00ading unan\u00adswer\u00adable to a pub\u00adlic that\u2019s being moral\u00adly coerced.\u2019 New lan\u00adguage makes ide\u00ado\u00adlog\u00adi\u00adcal claims, he wrote. \u2018If you accept the change\u2014as, in cer\u00adtain con\u00adtexts, you\u2019ll sure\u00adly feel you must\u2014then you also acqui\u00adesce in the argu\u00adment.\u2019 \u201d\n
