I just find it inter\u00adest\u00ading that a promi\u00adnent pub\u00adlic intel\u00adlec\u00adtu\u00adal affil\u00adi\u00adat\u00aded with Stan\u00adford is a believ\u00ader.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/11\/18\/opinion\/teenagers-mental-health-treatment.html\" target=\"_blank\">This Is Not the Way to Help Depressed Teenagers<\/a> (Darbe Saxbe, New York Times): \u201c[Pro\u00adgrams designed to help young peo\u00adple instead] made their men\u00adtal-health prob\u00adlems <em>worse<\/em>. Under\u00adstand\u00ading why these efforts back\u00adfired can shed light on how soci\u00adety can \u2014 and can\u2019t \u2014 help teenagers who are suf\u00adfer\u00ading from depres\u00adsion and anx\u00adi\u00adety.\u2026 Teenagers, who are still devel\u00adop\u00ading their iden\u00adti\u00adties, are espe\u00adcial\u00adly prone to take psy\u00adcho\u00adlog\u00adi\u00adcal labels to heart. Instead of \u2018I am ner\u00advous about X,\u2019 a teenag\u00ader might say, \u2018I can\u2019t do X because I have anx\u00adi\u00adety\u2019 \u2014 a refram\u00ading that research shows under\u00admines resilience by encour\u00adag\u00ading peo\u00adple to view every\u00adday chal\u00adlenges as insur\u00admount\u00adable.\u201d\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The author is a psy\u00adchol\u00ado\u00adgy prof at USC.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.deseret.com\/opinion\/2023\/11\/25\/23973024\/religion-isnt-sexually-repressive-data\" target=\"_blank\">Reli\u00adgion isn\u2019t sex\u00adu\u00adal\u00adly repres\u00adsive. Just read the data.<\/a> (Stephen Cran\u00adney, Deseret News): \u201c\u2026con\u00adtrary to wide\u00adly held belief, reli\u00adgious peo\u00adple report bet\u00adter sex lives, and mar\u00adried reli\u00adgious cou\u00adples have more fre\u00adquent and bet\u00adter sex than oth\u00aders (non-mar\u00adried reli\u00adgious peo\u00adple, intu\u00aditive\u00adly, have less sex). These results were sup\u00adport\u00aded by one study that found reli\u00adgious British peo\u00adple report\u00aded more sat\u00adis\u00adfy\u00ading sex lives. A sep\u00ada\u00adrate BYU study, pub\u00adlished by Psy\u00adchol\u00ado\u00adgy of Reli\u00adgion and Spir\u00adi\u00adtu\u00adal\u00adi\u00adty, found sim\u00adi\u00adlar results for mar\u00adried cou\u00adples in the U.S. while anoth\u00ader found that high\u00adly reli\u00adgious peo\u00adple had high\u00ader sex\u00adu\u00adal \u2018pas\u00adsion\u2019 than more mod\u00ader\u00adate\u00adly reli\u00adgious peo\u00adple (non\u00adre\u00adli\u00adgious peo\u00adple also reflect\u00aded high\u00ader \u2018pas\u00adsion\u2019 lev\u00adels).\u201d\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>This sen\u00adtence made me chuck\u00adle: \u201cIt may well be that the most sex\u00adu\u00adal\u00adly active cam\u00adpus\u00ades in the U.S. aren\u2019t the famous par\u00adty schools, but rather the more reli\u00adgious\u00adly con\u00adser\u00adv\u00ada\u00adtive schools with more mar\u00adried stu\u00addents.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The author is a soci\u00adol\u00ado\u00adgist and a demog\u00adra\u00adph\u00ader with appoint\u00adments at Bay\u00adlor\u2019s Insti\u00adtute for the Study of Reli\u00adgion and at the Catholic Uni\u00adver\u00adsi\u00adty of Amer\u00adi\u00adca<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/ottawacitizen.com\/feature\/solomon-friedman-is-on-a-mission-to-save-pornhub\/wcm\/99312fc4-0a4a-4bf6-9937-f1c1d8bb8527\/amp\/\" target=\"_blank\">Solomon Fried\u00adman is on a mis\u00adsion to save Porn\u00adhub<\/a> (Andrew Duffy, Ottowa Citzen): \u201cSolomon Fried\u00adman is not some\u00adone read\u00adi\u00adly defined: He\u2019s a defence lawyer and an organ donor; a firearms advo\u00adcate and an ordained rab\u00adbi; an investor, phil\u00adan\u00adthropist, and pornog\u00adra\u00adphy mag\u00adnate. If the 37-year-old father of three is not the most inter\u00adest\u00ading man in Ottawa, then the licensed pilot and part-time law pro\u00adfes\u00adsor is cer\u00adtain\u00adly one of the busiest.\u201d\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>This is actu\u00adal\u00adly insane.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.crossway.org\/articles\/why-i-no-longer-support-the-death-penalty\/\" target=\"_blank\">Why I No Longer Sup\u00adport the Death Penal\u00adty<\/a> (Matthew T. Martens, Cross\u00adway): \u201c8,790 peo\u00adple have been sen\u00adtenced to death in the Unit\u00aded States since 1973. One hun\u00addred and eighty-four of those men and women were exon\u00ader\u00adat\u00aded as of the end of 2022.11 They were inno\u00adcent of the crimes of which they were con\u00advict\u00aded and sen\u00adtenced to die. In oth\u00ader words, we <em>know<\/em> that at least 2 per\u00adcent of peo\u00adple sen\u00adtenced to death since 1973 were wrong\u00adly con\u00addemned. Even if we have iden\u00adti\u00adfied all of those wrong\u00adly con\u00advict\u00aded and the error rate is \u2018only\u2019 2 per\u00adcent, that is an error rate high\u00ader than I am will\u00ading to tol\u00ader\u00adate.\u2026 I am unwill\u00ading to wager anoth\u00ader man\u2019s life. I would not wager my own under those con\u00addi\u00adtions.\u201d\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The author has recent\u00adly writ\u00adten a book about a Chris\u00adt\u00adian per\u00adspec\u00adtive on crim\u00adi\u00adnal jus\u00adtice. He is a defend\u00ader of the death penal\u00adty as a con\u00adcept yet opposed to it as prac\u00adticed in Amer\u00adi\u00adca today.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tomshardware.com\/news\/chinese-company-uses-ai-to-optimize-linux-kernel\" target=\"_blank\">Tik\u00adTok par\u00adent com\u00adpa\u00adny used AI to opti\u00admize Lin\u00adux ker\u00adnel, boost\u00ading per\u00adfor\u00admance and effi\u00adcien\u00adcy<\/a> (Matthew Con\u00adnatser, Tom\u2019s Hard\u00adware): \u201cThe gen\u00ader\u00adal gist of the pre\u00adsen\u00adta\u00adtion: ByteDance used AI to make the Lin\u00adux ker\u00adnel (the core of the oper\u00adat\u00ading sys\u00adtem) much more effi\u00adcient and per\u00adfor\u00admant across all kinds of hard\u00adware.\u2026 AI opti\u00admiza\u00adtions were able to reduce mem\u00ado\u00adry usage by 30% \u2014 and that was using exist\u00ading Lin\u00adux tools, just more effi\u00adcient\u00adly. Net\u00adwork laten\u00adcy was also improved by up to 12% with AI that has pri\u00ador knowl\u00adedge (which would\u00adn\u2019t be hard to obtain on a com\u00adput\u00ader used reg\u00adu\u00adlar\u00adly).\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/clearlyreformed.org\/on-culture-war-doug-wilson-and-the-moscow-mood\/\" target=\"_blank\">On Cul\u00adture War, Doug Wil\u00adson, and the Moscow Mood<\/a> (Kevin DeY\u00adoung, per\u00adson\u00adal blog): \u201cMy con\u00adcerns are not so much with one or two con\u00adclu\u00adsions that Chris\u00adtians may reach if Wil\u00adson becomes their intel\u00adlec\u00adtu\u00adal men\u00adtor. My big\u00adger con\u00adcern is with the long-term spir\u00adi\u00adtu\u00adal effects of admir\u00ading and imi\u00adtat\u00ading the Moscow mood. For the mood that attracts peo\u00adple to Moscow is too often incom\u00adpat\u00adi\u00adble with Chris\u00adt\u00adian virtue, incon\u00adsid\u00ader\u00adate of oth\u00ader Chris\u00adtians, and ulti\u00admate\u00adly incon\u00adsis\u00adtent with the stat\u00aded aims of Wilson\u2019s Chris\u00adten\u00addom project.\u201d\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Broad\u00adly cor\u00adrect, although I think DeY\u00adoung over\u00adstates his case a few times. Wil\u00adson does present the gospel more than DeY\u00adoung acknowl\u00adedges and that is one of his appeals.
