In case you\u2019re wondering, it was a pleasant visit. We went to San Jose<\/a>, San Francisco<\/a>, Big Basin<\/a> (where we saw some truly impressive redwoods), and Santa Cruz<\/a>. Woohoo!<\/p>\n

Mentioning San Jose reminds me: I recently discovered that San Jose is actually larger than San Francisco<\/a> (both in terms of land mass and population). It\u2019s the third largest city in the state\u2013following Los Angeles and San Diego\u2013and the eleventh largest in America.<\/p>\n

That really threw me for a loop. My whole life I\u2019ve thought there were two big cities in California: Los Angeles and San Francisco. Once again, my Gen X<\/a> geographic illiteracy races to the fore!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
