(Mark R. Fairchild and Jor\u00addan K. Mon\u00adson, Chris\u00adtian\u00adi\u00adty Today): \u201cRec\u00adon\u00adcil\u00ading the <em>Phar\u00adisee, Hebrew of Hebrews, Ara\u00adma\u00adic-speak\u00ading zealot<\/em> Paul with the <em>Roman cit\u00adi\u00adzen, glo\u00adbe\u00adtrot\u00adting, Greek-speak\u00ading<\/em> Paul seems impos\u00adsi\u00adble. The open\u00ading and clos\u00ading felt like fluff to me. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Unlocked.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Stuff about the col\u00adlege protests\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.natesilver.net\/p\/for-most-people-politics-is-about\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">For most peo\u00adple, pol\u00adi\u00adtics is about fit\u00adting in<\/a> (Nate Sil\u00adver, Sub\u00adstack): \u201cPeo\u00adple are try\u00ading to fig\u00adure out where they fit in \u2014 who\u2019s on their side and who isn\u2019t. And this works in both direc\u00adtions: peo\u00adple can be attract\u00aded to a group or neg\u00ada\u00adtive\u00adly polar\u00adized by it.\u2026 Notice what\u2019s miss\u00ading from my list? The notion of pol\u00adi\u00adtics as a <em>bat\u00adtle of ideas<\/em>.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/student-protest-gaza-war-arrest-amnesty-ae235703d6a9b99114078fca13a530a0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Col\u00adlege pro\u00adtest\u00aders seek amnesty to keep arrests and sus\u00adpen\u00adsions from trail\u00ading them<\/a> (Joce\u00adlyn Geck\u00ader, AP News): \u201cPetocz said protest\u00ading in high school was what helped get him into Van\u00adder\u00adbilt and secure a mer\u00adit schol\u00adar\u00adship for activists and orga\u00adniz\u00aders. His col\u00adlege essay was about orga\u00adniz\u00ading walk\u00adouts in rur\u00adal Flori\u00adda to oppose Gov. Ron DeSan\u00adtis\u2019 anti-LGBTQ poli\u00adcies. \u2018Van\u00adder\u00adbilt seemed to love that,\u2019 Petocz said.\u2019&nbsp;\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/04\/27\/opinion\/columbia-university-protests.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">What Stu\u00addents Read Before They Protest<\/a> (Ross Douthat, New York Times): \u201c[Read\u00ading the syl\u00adlabus explains] the two things that seem so dis\u00adpro\u00adpor\u00adtion\u00adate in these protests and the cul\u00adture that sur\u00adrounds them. First, it explains why this con\u00adflict attracts such a scale of on-cam\u00adpus atten\u00adtion and action and dis\u00adrup\u00adtion, while so many oth\u00ader wars and crises (Sudan, Con\u00adgo, Arme\u00adnia, Bur\u00adma, Yemen \u2026) are bare\u00adly noticed or ignored. The choice rep\u00adre\u00adsents a sharp break by many, though not all, of these stu\u00addents from ear\u00adli\u00ader gen\u00ader\u00ada\u00adtions of uni\u00adver\u00adsi\u00adty activists, who gained their moral force in part by putting their words on record and their futures in jeop\u00adardy for a larg\u00ader cause.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/05\/01\/opinion\/student-protests-gaza.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">How Pro\u00adtest\u00aders Can Actu\u00adal\u00adly Help Pales\u00adtini\u00adans<\/a> (Nicholas Kristof, New York Times): \u201c\u2026this may sound zany, but how about rais\u00ading mon\u00adey to send as many of your stu\u00addent lead\u00aders as pos\u00adsi\u00adble this sum\u00admer to live in the West Bank and learn from Pales\u00adtini\u00adans there (while engag\u00ading with Israelis on the way in or out)? West Bank mon\u00adi\u00adtors say that a recent Israeli crack\u00addown on for\u00adeign\u00aders help\u00ading Pales\u00adtini\u00adans, by deny\u00ading entry or deport\u00ading peo\u00adple, has made this more dif\u00adfi\u00adcult but not impos\u00adsi\u00adble. Stu\u00addent vis\u00adi\u00adtors must be pru\u00addent and cau\u00adtious but could study Ara\u00adbic, teach Eng\u00adlish and vol\u00adun\u00adteer with human rights orga\u00adni\u00adza\u00adtions on the ground. Rather, I think Tik\u00adTok sim\u00adply lacks any mer\u00adit as a plat\u00adform and is only use\u00adful in the sense that it is pas\u00adsive\u00adly enter\u00adtain\u00ading. This is also how I would describe things like soap operas, pro\u00adfes\u00adsion\u00adal wrestling, and the nation\u00adal hot dog eat\u00ading con\u00adtest. The dif\u00adfer\u00adence, though, between Tik\u00adTok and those things, is that Tik\u00adTok is 1) addic\u00adtive, 2) active\u00adly cor\u00adro\u00adsive to think\u00ading, and 3) mar\u00adket\u00aded to and con\u00adsumed by an enor\u00admous num\u00adber of chil\u00addren.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>Why Do You Send This Email?<\/b><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the time of King David, the tribe of Issachar pro\u00adduced shrewd war\u00adriors \u201cwho under\u00adstood the times and knew what Israel should do\u201d (1 Chron 12:32).
