{"id":751,"date":"2006-10-27T11:23:38","date_gmt":"2006-10-27T19:23:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/glenandpaula.com\/archives\/2006\/10\/27\/thoughts-on-worship\/"},"modified":"2006-10-27T11:23:38","modified_gmt":"2006-10-27T19:23:38","slug":"thoughts-on-worship","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/glenandpaula.com\/wordpress\/archives\/2006\/10\/27\/thoughts-on-worship","title":{"rendered":"Thoughts on Worship"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A few weeks ago I was dis\u00adcussing wor\u00adship with David Jones, the leader of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rufstanford.com\/\">Reformed Uni\u00adver\u00adsi\u00adty Fel\u00adlow\u00adship at Stan\u00adford<\/a>, and he put some\u00adthing into words that I\u2019ve been try\u00ading to artic\u00adu\u00adlate for a while, \u201cWor\u00adship is both <strong>expres\u00adsive<\/strong> and <strong>for\u00adma\u00adtive<\/strong>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In oth\u00ader words, wor\u00adship does\u00adn\u2019t only <strong>show<\/strong> what we feel and believe, it also <strong>shapes<\/strong> what we feel and believe.<\/p>\n<p>My stu\u00addents will only hear me preach a giv\u00aden ser\u00admon once \u2014 but they may sing a wor\u00adship song dozens of times. And if we\u2019ve cho\u00adsen catchy yet super\u00adfi\u00adcial junk for them to sing we\u2019ve done them a real dis\u00adser\u00advice.<\/p>\n<p>And that\u2019s why we don\u2019t just sing any old song in our Chi Alpha meet\u00adings. They have to be catchy while also being pro\u00adfound and ennobling. In oth\u00ader words, they have to both <strong>sound good<\/strong> and <strong>be good<\/strong>. <\/p>\n<p>For what it\u2019s worth, I think that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.christomlin.com\/\">Chris Tom\u00adlin<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.benpasley.com\/\">Ben Pasley<\/a> (of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.entertheworshipcircle.com\/\">Enter the Wor\u00adship Cir\u00adcle<\/a>) stand out for real\u00adly hit\u00adting the mark con\u00adsis\u00adtent\u00adly.
