Wood, Plough): \u201cI come from a stock of rela\u00adtion\u00adship-quit\u00adters. Dur\u00ading my child\u00adhood, pret\u00adty much every\u00adone in my life had divorced at least once, extend\u00aded fam\u00adi\u00adly con\u00adnec\u00adtions were strained, long-term friends were nonex\u00adis\u00adtent, and moves were fre\u00adquent. Over time I came to adopt a con\u00adcep\u00adtion of free\u00addom that had destroyed the lives of many around me, and which would threat\u00aden to destroy my own as well: the pop\u00adu\u00adlar idea of free\u00addom as uncon\u00adstrained choice. Since this is impos\u00adsi\u00adble, the default was a more achiev\u00adable ver\u00adsion: the abil\u00adi\u00adty to drop com\u00admit\u00adments and rela\u00adtion\u00adships at any point when they become too com\u00adpli\u00adcat\u00aded.
