The church as such must also stim\u00adu\u00adlate mem\u00adbers to apply scrip\u00adtur\u00adal prin\u00adci\u00adples with sound rea\u00adson and in good con\u00adscience to cur\u00adrent polit\u00adi\u00adcal con\u00adcerns, in quest of pre\u00adferred poli\u00adcies and pro\u00adgrams pro\u00admo\u00adtive of jus\u00adtice and peace. Since God wills the state as an instru\u00admen\u00adtal\u00adi\u00adty for pre\u00adserv\u00ading jus\u00adtice and restrain\u00ading dis\u00ador\u00adder, the church should urge mem\u00adbers to engage in polit\u00adi\u00adcal affairs to their utmost com\u00adpe\u00adtence and abil\u00adi\u00adty, to vote faith\u00adful\u00adly and intel\u00adli\u00adgent\u00adly, to engage in the polit\u00adi\u00adcal process at all lev\u00adels, and to seek and hold pub\u00adlic office. The church is not, how\u00adev\u00ader, to use the mech\u00ada\u00adnisms of gov\u00adern\u00adment to legal\u00adly impose upon soci\u00adety at large her the\u00ado\u00adlog\u00adi\u00adcal com\u00admit\u00adments. The church must increas\u00ading\u00adly clar\u00adi\u00adfy when obe\u00addi\u00adence to God requires dis\u00adobe\u00addi\u00adence to the state and, no less, when dis\u00adobe\u00addi\u00adence to the state con\u00adsti\u00adtutes dis\u00adobe\u00addi\u00adence to God.\u201d\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>From 1984, a tran\u00adscrip\u00adtion of a speech by a key voice in the emer\u00adgence of Amer\u00adi\u00adcan evan\u00adgel\u00adi\u00adcal\u00adism.
