We sim\u00adply ran the sto\u00adry sub\u00adject\u00ads\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 names through Google Trans\u00adlate to get the Ara\u00adbic spelling, then searched those names in Ara\u00adbic-lan\u00adguage media. Even a quick scan of the results revealed that many of these chil\u00addren suf\u00adfer from mus\u00adcle atro\u00adphy, head injuries, or oth\u00ader seri\u00adous med\u00adical con\u00addi\u00adtions that help explain their ema\u00adci\u00adat\u00aded appear\u00adance.\u201d\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A fol\u00adlow-up: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thefp.com\/p\/journalists-against-journalism-media-news-editorial\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Jour\u00adnal\u00adists Against Jour\u00adnal\u00adism<\/a> (The Free Press): \u201cJour\u00adnal\u00adis\u00adtic out\u00adlets love to boast about \u2018impact,\u2019 and this sto\u00adry has had more than its share.\u2026 In a nor\u00admal time, this is the kind of work that would be praised by our peers for get\u00adting to ground truth. In the past few years, these orga\u00adni\u00adza\u00adtions have qui\u00adet\u00adly foiled the careers of politi\u00adcians who opposed China\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s author\u00adi\u00adtar\u00adi\u00adan gov\u00adern\u00adment while back\u00ading oth\u00aders who sup\u00adport\u00aded poli\u00adcies of the country\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s rul\u00ading Com\u00admu\u00adnist Par\u00adty.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetimes.com\/article\/1051c82d-3c3f-40cd-b6f3-a9ac9657240b?shareToken=6dad07836cb34a31de02ea5052f04f65\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m a Stan\u00adford stu\u00addent. A Chi\u00adnese agent tried to recruit me as a spy<\/a> (Elsa John\u00adson, The Times): \u201cAfter that I start\u00aded screen\u00adshot\u00adting our con\u00adver\u00adsa\u00adtions. I know it sounds para\u00adnoid, but I had heard of oth\u00ader Stan\u00adford stu\u00addents receiv\u00ading com\u00admu\u00adni\u00adca\u00adtions like this out of the blue \u00e2\u20ac\u201d espe\u00adcial\u00adly those study\u00ading sci\u00adence, tech, engi\u00adneer\u00ading or math\u00ade\u00admat\u00adics.\u2026. Thanks to Amer\u00adi\u00adcan uni\u00adver\u00adsi\u00adties\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 open-door pol\u00adi\u00adcy, Chi\u00adnese aca\u00add\u00ade\u00admics are allowed to col\u00adlab\u00ado\u00adrate with our smartest researchers and sci\u00aden\u00adtists, and take our advance\u00adments in AI, robot\u00adics, weapon\u00adry and nuclear tech\u00adnol\u00ado\u00adgy back home.
