CIA agents and reli\u00adgious activists man\u00adaged to keep their part\u00adner\u00adships most\u00adly hid\u00adden until the 1970s. But in the wake of Viet\u00adnam and Water\u00adgate, numer\u00adous jour\u00adnal\u00adists and then Con\u00adgress began scru\u00adti\u00adniz\u00ading the agency more close\u00adly. They revealed to the world that the CIA had been employ\u00ading mis\u00adsion\u00adar\u00adies to fur\u00adther its agen\u00adda and that some reli\u00adgious activists were receiv\u00ading sub\u00adstan\u00adtial rewards for their work on the government\u2019s behalf. In fact, the CIA and reli\u00adgious activists have long col\u00adlab\u00ado\u00adrat\u00aded to achieve numer\u00adous pol\u00adi\u00adcy goals.\u201d\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Super fas\u00adci\u00adnat\u00ading. My denom\u00adi\u00adna\u00adtion receives spe\u00adcif\u00adic men\u00adtion: \u201cThe Assem\u00adblies of God, which had a large and active mis\u00adsion\u00adary out\u00adreach, qui\u00adet\u00adly instruct\u00aded work\u00aders to avoid CIA col\u00adlab\u00ado\u00adra\u00adtion. How\u00adev\u00ader, church lead\u00aders did not want to go on record pub\u00adlicly against the CIA.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.osvnews.com\/report-more-than-388-million-christians-worldwide-face-high-levels-of-persecution\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Report: More than 388 mil\u00adlion Chris\u00adtians world\u00adwide face \u2018high lev\u00adels\u2019 of per\u00adse\u00adcu\u00adtion<\/a> (Gina Chris\u00adt\u00adian, OSV News): \u201cMore than 388 mil\u00adlion Chris\u00adtians \u2014 or 1 in 7 believ\u00aders world\u00adwide \u2014 face \u2018high lev\u00adels of per\u00adse\u00adcu\u00adtion and dis\u00adcrim\u00adi\u00adna\u00adtion for their faith,\u2019 accord\u00ading to a new report.\u2026 Specif\u00adi\u00adcal\u00adly, Open Doors focus\u00ades on col\u00adlect\u00ading data on Chris\u00adt\u00adian per\u00adse\u00adcu\u00adtion in six key areas: restric\u00adtions or dan\u00adgers on prac\u00adtic\u00ading faith in pri\u00advate, fam\u00adi\u00adly, com\u00admu\u00adni\u00adty, nation\u00adal and church life, as well as the lev\u00adels of vio\u00adlence \u2014 men\u00adtal, phys\u00adi\u00adcal and sex\u00adu\u00adal \u2014 Chris\u00adtians face in the 150 nations Open Doors mon\u00adi\u00adtors. But his\u00adto\u00adry sel\u00addom fol\u00adlows straight lines.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.christianitytoday.com\/2026\/01\/christians-romans-13-ice-shooting-minneapolis\/?utm_medium=widgetsocial\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Chris\u00adtians, Let\u2019s Stop Abus\u00ading Romans 13<\/a> (Rus\u00adsell Moore, Chris\u00adtian\u00adi\u00adty Today): \u201cMore\u00adover, the use of Romans 13 as a refusal to ques\u00adtion the moral\u00adi\u00adty of a use of force is, iron\u00adi\u00adcal\u00adly enough, a <em>vio\u00adla\u00adtion <\/em>of the pas\u00adsage. Well, we actu\u00adal\u00adly know the answer, because the same Spir\u00adit who breathed out Romans 13 also breathed out John the Baptist\u2019s instruc\u00adtions to tax col\u00adlec\u00adtors and sol\u00addiers. John told them not to extort mon\u00adey from any\u00adone, imply\u00ading that they would be held respon\u00adsi\u00adble for the mis\u00aduse of their pow\u00ader (Luke 3:12\u201314). The same Spir\u00adit also favor\u00adably por\u00adtrayed Paul\u2019s inter\u00adac\u00adtion with the police who told him and Silas, on behalf of the mag\u00adis\u00adtrates, to leave qui\u00adet\u00adly, to which Paul replied, \u2018They have beat\u00aden us pub\u00adlicly, uncon\u00addemned, men who are Roman cit\u00adi\u00adzens, and have thrown us into prison; and do they now throw us out secret\u00adly? No! I count\u00aded at least five pub\u00adlic school teach\u00aders, a divorce lawyer, two med\u00adical pro\u00adfes\u00adsion\u00adals, a for\u00admer bal\u00adle\u00adri\u00adna, and even one Min\u00adneapo\u00adlis City Coun\u00adcil mem\u00adber: Aurin Chowd\u00adhury\u00e2\u0081\u00a9, a pro\u00adgres\u00adsive who was endorsed by the Demo\u00adc\u00adra\u00adt\u00adic Social\u00adists of Amer\u00adi\u00adca in 2023. One local non\u00adprof\u00adit leader whose orga\u00adni\u00adza\u00adtion reset\u00adtles refugees told me that the aver\u00adage par\u00adtic\u00adi\u00adpants in these Sig\u00adnal groups are church mem\u00adbers, retirees, and par\u00adents.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thefp.com\/p\/minneapolis-isnt-a-movie\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Min\u00adneapo\u00adlis Isn\u2019t a Movie<\/a> (Kat Rosen\u00adfield, The Free Press): \u201cAround the same time that Renee Good was shot, a video cir\u00adcu\u00adlat\u00aded on Tik\u00adTok of anoth\u00ader con\u00adfronta\u00adtion between a group of agents who appear to be U.S. Mar\u00adshals and an activist with a cam\u00adera. The activist is a young- to mid\u00addle-aged woman, as is one of the agents\u2014and when the first woman men\u00adtions that her 6\u2011year-old child is in her car, the agent looks like she\u2019s been elec\u00adtro\u00adcut\u00aded. \u2018You have a child in your car?\u2019 she says, her voice pitch\u00ading sharply upward, her eyes wide with hor\u00adror. \u2018Get your child off the scene! This is an active police scene!\u2019 It could not be clear\u00ader, in this moment, that these women inhab\u00adit two dif\u00adfer\u00adent real\u00adi\u00adties. One under\u00adstands her\u00adself to be in a dan\u00adger\u00adous, high-stakes sit\u00adu\u00ada\u00adtion; the oth\u00ader thinks it\u2019s all a sort of game.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/thedispatch.com\/newsletter\/boilingfrogs\/ice-minneapolis-trump-immigration-polling\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Goon Squad<\/a> (Nick Cat\u00adto\u00adgio, The Dis\u00adpatch): \u201cWhy on earth is the admin\u00adis\u00adtra\u00adtion announc\u00ading its oper\u00ada\u00adtions before they hap\u00adpen?\u2026 It makes no sense as a strat\u00ade\u00adgy for effec\u00adtive law enforcement\u2014but lots of sense as a pageant of dom\u00adi\u00adneer\u00ading law-and-order assertive\u00adness. The Trump admin\u00adis\u00adtra\u00adtion <em>wants<\/em> con\u00adfronta\u00adtion. Its top pri\u00ador\u00adi\u00adty isn\u2019t to unob\u00adtru\u00adsive\u00adly detain and remove the most dan\u00adger\u00adous immi\u00adgrants, as the depor\u00adta\u00adtion num\u00adbers prove. Its pri\u00ador\u00adi\u00adty is to intim\u00adi\u00addate its cul\u00adtur\u00adal ene\u00admies with heavy-hand\u00aded dis\u00adplays of author\u00adi\u00adty and promis\u00ades of offi\u00adcial impuni\u00adty for those who car\u00adry them out. That\u2019s why ICE wears masks, a priv\u00adi\u00adlege even U.S. com\u00adbat troops don\u2019t enjoy, and why some agents are kit\u00adted out in cam\u00adou\u00adflage despite the fact that they\u2019re not try\u00ading to \u2018blend in\u2019 to their urban sur\u00adround\u00adings. (There\u2019s noth\u00ading stealthy about ICE.) They\u2019re not enforc\u00ading the law, they\u2019re going into bat\u00adtle. And their anonymi\u00adty sig\u00adnals, to you <em>and to them<\/em>, that no one will hold them account\u00adable for what hap\u00adpens dur\u00ading that bat\u00adtle if you make trou\u00adble.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2026\/01\/15\/us\/minnesota-minneapolis-shooting-ice-renee-good.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">One State, Two Very Dif\u00adfer\u00adent Views of Min\u00adneapo\u00adlis<\/a> (Sheila M. Eldred, Eliz\u00ada\u00adbeth A. Staw\u00adic\u00adki, Ann Hin\u00adga Klein and Kurt Streeter, New York Times): \u201cMs. Good\u2019s death was trag\u00adic, they said. Hor\u00adrif\u00adic. But they also said that she had asked for trou\u00adble. \u2018You obey the law offi\u00adcer,\u2019 a man in a veteran\u2019s ball cap said, \u2018and ques\u00adtion it lat\u00ader.\u2019 This is the divide, in a sin\u00adgle sen\u00adtence. In Min\u00adneapo\u00adlis, pro\u00adtest\u00aders saw an inno\u00adcent woman killed by a fed\u00ader\u00adal agent and took to the streets. At \u2018the Pick\u00adle,\u2019 the reg\u00adu\u00adlars saw a woman who should have com\u00adplied.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>Why Do You Send This Email?<\/b><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the time of King David, the tribe of Issachar pro\u00adduced shrewd war\u00adriors \u201cwho under\u00adstood the times and knew what Israel should do\u201d (1 Chron 12:32). In a sim\u00adi\u00adlar way, we need to become wise peo\u00adple whose faith inter\u00adacts with the world.
