God\u2019s per\u00adspec\u00adtive is cos\u00admic and not earth\u00adbound, and so how He sees a day changes in accor\u00addance with the prin\u00adci\u00adples of rel\u00ada\u00adtiv\u00adi\u00adty as space\u00adtime itself changes).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/open.substack.com\/pub\/sarahsalviander\/p\/one-of-the-biggest-mistakes-the-new?r=3oveq7&amp;utm_medium=ios\">One of the biggest mis\u00adtakes the New Athe\u00adists made<\/a> (Sarah Sal\u00advian\u00adder, Sub\u00adstack): \u201cMy own jour\u00adney to faith didn\u2019t come from what I _didn\u2019t_ under\u00adstand. It came from what I _did_. As a grad stu\u00addent, I stud\u00adied the chem\u00adistry of the ear\u00adly uni\u00adverse through obser\u00adva\u00adtions of dis\u00adtant quasars. The exquis\u00adite fine-tun\u00ading, the pre\u00adcise con\u00adver\u00adgence of phys\u00adi\u00adcal con\u00adstants and con\u00addi\u00adtions need\u00aded to make those mea\u00adsure\u00adments pos\u00adsi\u00adble, the under\u00adly\u00ading order that allowed the Big Bang mod\u00adel to hold together\u2014it all radi\u00adat\u00aded a pro\u00adfound sense of inten\u00adtion\u00adal design. To me, it wasn\u2019t a gap scream\u00ading for a filler. It was evi\u00addence point\u00ading unmis\u00adtak\u00adably to a Cre\u00adator. Lennox puts it beau\u00adti\u00adful\u00adly: the more he under\u00adstands the universe\u2014its math\u00ade\u00admat\u00adi\u00adcal intel\u00adli\u00adgi\u00adbil\u00adi\u00adty, its laws that describe rather than create\u2014the more it draws him toward God. He com\u00adpares it to stand\u00ading before a great paint\u00ading. The untrained eye sees beau\u00adty; the expert, who grasps the tech\u00adnique and genius behind the brush\u00adstrokes, sees far more. Sci\u00adence doesn\u2019t erode faith for those who see clear\u00adly. He real\u00adizes the apple is noth\u00ading but atoms. Because no indi\u00advid\u00adual atom is red, he con\u00adcludes the apple can\u2019t real\u00adly be red. The error is obvi\u00adous. Col\u00ador exists at the scale of the apple, not at the scale of an atom. Free will works the same way. A choice exists at the scale of a per\u00adson think\u00ading, weigh\u00ading and decid\u00ading. Look\u00ading at the mol\u00ade\u00adcules under\u00adneath and find\u00ading no choice there doesn\u2019t prove that choice is an illu\u00adsion.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.aaronrenn.com\/p\/protestantisms-institutional-problem\">Protes\u00adtantism\u2019s Insti\u00adtu\u00adtion\u00adal Prob\u00adlem<\/a> (Jor\u00addan B. Coop\u00ader, Sub\u00adstack): \u201cIt has often been the case when some\u00adone I know per\u00adson\u00adal\u00adly informs me that they have decid\u00aded to [become Catholic], that they jus\u00adti\u00adfy such a move with claims of intel\u00adlec\u00adtu\u00adal per\u00adsua\u00adsion based upon the strength of RC argu\u00adments. In many cas\u00ades, they have nev\u00ader brought any of these claims or ques\u00adtions to me at all before mak\u00ading a deci\u00adsion. If some\u00adone real\u00adly want\u00aded to eval\u00adu\u00adate the truth claims of two tra\u00addi\u00adtions, and that per\u00adson had a friend who exam\u00adines these issues for a liv\u00ading, one would think they\u2019d at least hear that per\u00adson out pri\u00ador to com\u00admit\u00adting. But alas, it often does not hap\u00adpen. It is the same sto\u00adry every time: some\u00adone has watched some RC apolo\u00adget\u00adics videos online, has decid\u00aded to join the RCC for what\u00adev\u00ader rea\u00adson, and is unwill\u00ading to hear any cri\u00adtique. The\u00ado\u00adlog\u00adi\u00adcal rea\u00adsons are con\u00adstruct\u00aded post hoc. This per\u00adson is already con\u00advinced and uses the\u00adol\u00ado\u00adgy to jus\u00adti\u00adfy a con\u00adclu\u00adsion already arrived at. This should not be so sur\u00adpris\u00ading, as human beings are not as ratio\u00adnal\u00adly dri\u00adven as we some\u00adtimes assume.\u201d\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>100% agree with this obser\u00adva\u00adtion (although I have a few quib\u00adbles with the larg\u00ader post in which it is embed\u00added). Ear\u00adli\u00ader this week I talked with a col\u00adleague on anoth\u00ader cam\u00adpus about this exact issue. I can\u00adnot recall a time when a stu\u00addent con\u00adsid\u00ader\u00ading Catholi\u00adcism ever asked me about the Protes\u00adtant side of the argu\u00adment. Ever. But then they act as though they weighed the evi\u00addence care\u00adful\u00adly. These stu\u00addents are bright, con\u00adsci\u00aden\u00adtious and curi\u00adous. But they lack reli\u00adgious lit\u00ader\u00ada\u00adcy \u2014 and their igno\u00adrance of reli\u00adgious ideas means they strug\u00adgle to under\u00adstand a wide array of West\u00adern art, lit\u00ader\u00ada\u00adture and phi\u00adlos\u00ado\u00adphy.
