The dif\u00adfi\u00adcul\u00adty, even now, lies not in the absence of evi\u00addence, but in the lim\u00adits of com\u00adpre\u00adhen\u00adsion.\u201d\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>This is a high-lev\u00adel sum\u00adma\u00adry with\u00adout the dis\u00adturb\u00ading graph\u00adic details that some reports fore\u00adground.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2026\/05\/21\/opinion\/kristof-palestinian-sexual-assault.html\">Your Ques\u00adtions About Nicholas Kristof\u2019s Col\u00adumn on Pales\u00adtini\u00adans and Sex\u00adu\u00adal Assault<\/a> (Kath\u00adleen Kings\u00adbury and Nicholas Kristof, New York Times): \u201cBefore pub\u00adli\u00adca\u00adtion, Nick\u2019s report\u00ading under\u00adwent a rig\u00ador\u00adous vet\u00adting process by Opinion\u2019s fact-check\u00ading depart\u00adment to ensure that every tes\u00adti\u00admo\u00adny and anec\u00addote he per\u00adson\u00adal\u00adly report\u00aded was sup\u00adport\u00aded by inde\u00adpen\u00addent sources, as is the case with all sen\u00adsi\u00adtive pieces. The Times\u2019s stan\u00addards and legal teams also reviewed the col\u00adumn and offered feed\u00adback. After pub\u00adli\u00adca\u00adtion, we reviewed the fac\u00adtu\u00adal chal\u00adlenges that read\u00aders and oth\u00aders raised, as is stan\u00addard prac\u00adtice with any pub\u00adlished piece. Edi\u00adtors found no errors.\u2026 Crit\u00adics who focus on the back\u00adgrounds of spe\u00adcif\u00adic sources often over\u00adlook the over\u00adwhelm\u00ading vol\u00adume and con\u00adsis\u00adten\u00adcy of such accounts. Nick\u2019s col\u00adumn, ulti\u00admate\u00adly, was a call to action, urg\u00ading those in pow\u00ader to con\u00addemn sex\u00adu\u00adal vio\u00adlence in all its forms.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/openai.com\/index\/model-disproves-discrete-geometry-conjecture\/\">An Ope\u00adnAI mod\u00adel has dis\u00adproved a cen\u00adtral con\u00adjec\u00adture in dis\u00adcrete geom\u00ade\u00adtry<\/a> (Ope\u00adnAI): \u201cThis proof is an impor\u00adtant mile\u00adstone for the math and AI com\u00admu\u00adni\u00adties. It also demon\u00adstrates the depth of rea\u00adson\u00ading these sys\u00adtems now sup\u00adport.\u2026 Fields medal\u00adist Tim Gow\u00aders, writ\u00ading in the com\u00adpan\u00adion paper, calls the result \u2018a mile\u00adstone in AI math\u00ade\u00admat\u00adics.\u2019&nbsp;\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/stanforddaily.com\/2026\/05\/14\/students-deserve-better-than-college\/\">Stu\u00addents deserve bet\u00adter than COLLEGE<\/a> (Iv\u00e1n Mari\u00adnovic, Stan\u00adford Dai\u00adly): \u201cBy my count, the syl\u00adlabus assigns rough\u00adly 45 pages of canon\u00adi\u00adcal West\u00adern philo\u00adsoph\u00adi\u00adcal writ\u00ading across the entire quar\u00adter, against more than 500 pages of con\u00adtem\u00adpo\u00adrary work orga\u00adnized around iden\u00adti\u00adty, oppres\u00adsion and indige\u00adnous ways of know\u00ading \u2014 Freire, Dan\u00adgarem\u00adb\u00adga, West\u00adover and Kim\u00admer\u00ader. The ratio is 11:1. There is no Aris\u00adto\u00adtle, no Augus\u00adtine, no Aquinas, no Mon\u00adtaigne, no Locke, no Mill, no New\u00adman, no Stein\u00ader, no Bloom \u2014 none of the writ\u00aders who built the case for lib\u00ader\u00adal edu\u00adca\u00adtion that the course claims to defend. A course adver\u00adtised as a defense of lib\u00ader\u00adal edu\u00adca\u00adtion has been built with\u00adout the thinkers who defined it.\u201d\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The author is an account\u00ading pro\u00adfes\u00adsor in the GSB. This was picked up and reprint\u00aded by The Free Press as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thefp.com\/p\/stanford-faculty-senate-curriculum-vote\">Stan\u00adford\u2019s War on the West\u00adern Canon<\/a>. The bit at the end com\u00adpar\u00ading Stan\u00adford to its peer insti\u00adtu\u00adtions was instruc\u00adtive.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>This one gen\u00ader\u00adat\u00aded a lot of stu\u00addent dis\u00adcus\u00adsion on our Slack, most\u00adly empha\u00adsiz\u00ading that more stu\u00addents should choose to <a href=\"https:\/\/sis.stanford.edu\/structured-liberal-education-sle\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/sis.stanford.edu\/structured-liberal-education-sle\">enroll in SLE<\/a> rather than the default route of COLLEGE. In one stu\u00adden\u00adt\u2019s words, \u201cEspe\u00adcial\u00adly with COLLEGE being expand\u00aded to 3 quar\u00adters, it\u2019s hard to see why stu\u00addents would pre\u00adfer to take it over SLE. SLE feels, at least for me, to be more effi\u00adcient (cov\u00ader\u00ading COLLEGE, PWR, and sev\u00ader\u00adal of the WAYS) and effec\u00adtive (in terms of the learn\u00ading and prepar\u00ading stu\u00addents for the rest of their aca\u00add\u00ade\u00adm\u00adic career).\u201d Anoth\u00ader stu\u00addent not\u00aded \u201ceven when SLE does get noticed by the press it still seems hat\u00aded on. Before frosh year I read an Atlantic piece that crit\u00adi\u00adcized it for hav\u00ading too much of a mod\u00adern focus and not engag\u00ading with old\u00ader sta\u00adples of the West\u00adern canon like Gil\u00adgamesh and the Odyssey. The prob\u00adlem is that WE DO cov\u00ader those texts and it was clear that the author mis\u00adun\u00adder\u00adstood the premise of the pro\u00adgram and only read the spring syl\u00adlabus.\u2026 Any\u00adways, the point is that SLE is great and every\u00adone should take it!\u201d <strong>Incom\u00ading frosh, take note!<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2026\/05\/18\/books\/review\/theo-baker-how-to-rule-the-world.html\">The Secret Elite One Fresh\u00adman Dis\u00adcov\u00adered at Stan\u00adford<\/a> (Anand Girid\u00adharadas, New York Times): \u201cBaker\u2019s first book, \u2018How to Rule the World,\u2019 is a rig\u00ador\u00adous, self-assured, propul\u00adsive, at times ter\u00adri\u00adfy\u00ading por\u00adtrait of a dwee\u00adboc\u00adra\u00adcy that \u2018sets the agen\u00adda for the plan\u00adet.\u2019 In every age, there is some place that epit\u00ado\u00admizes how pow\u00ader works. Baker\u2019s Stan\u00adford is a strong can\u00addi\u00addate, and his book fol\u00adlows in the tra\u00addi\u00adtion of Michael Lewis\u2019s Wall Street chron\u00adi\u00adcle \u2018Liar\u2019s Pok\u00ader,\u2019 but with more pim\u00adples and less eye con\u00adtact.\u201d\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>I love this para\u00adgraph. This is the same book I post\u00aded anoth\u00ader review of a few weeks ago.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>Why Do You Send This Email?<\/b><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the time of King David, the tribe of Issachar pro\u00adduced shrewd war\u00adriors \u201cwho under\u00adstood the times and knew what Israel should do\u201d (1 Chron 12:32).
