While I was busy tour\u00ading Mon\u00adterey Bay Aquar\u00adi\u00adum with my fam\u00adi\u00adly and eat\u00ading duri\u00adan<\/a>, most of the rest of the Assem\u00adblies of God was in Indi\u00adanapo\u00adlis for our bien\u00adni\u00adal min\u00adis\u00adte\u00adr\u00adi\u00adal gath\u00ader\u00ading.<\/p>\n

George Wood<\/a> has been elect\u00aded Gen\u00ader\u00adal Super\u00adin\u00adten\u00addent of the Assem\u00adblies of God. I hon\u00adest\u00adly did\u00adn\u2019t think he had a chance \u2014 our move\u00adment is still pret\u00adty anti-intel\u00adlec\u00adtu\u00adal and he has two earned doc\u00adtor\u00adates. In addi\u00adtion, I thought he might be per\u00adceived as part of the \u201cold guard\u201d in a time of great change. I\u2019m delight\u00aded that I was wrong \u2014 he\u2019ll be a great leader. He\u2019s a very flex\u00adi\u00adble thinker and sees both the strengths and weak\u00adness\u00ades of our move\u00adment pret\u00adty clear\u00adly.<\/p>\n

Alton Gar\u00adri\u00adson was elect\u00aded the new Assis\u00adtant Gen\u00ader\u00adal Super\u00adin\u00adten\u00addent (I expect\u00aded he would take one of the two top spots) \u2014 and he\u2019s a very savvy leader. He\u2019s much more well-read and inno\u00adv\u00ada\u00adtive than most peo\u00adple expect an evan\u00adge\u00adlist from Arkansas to be. He\u2019ll be a great voice to have at the table. <\/p>\n

John Palmer is the new Gen\u00ader\u00adal Sec\u00adre\u00adtary \u2014 I had expect\u00aded him to become the exec\u00adu\u00adtive direc\u00adtor of AG US Mis\u00adsions instead. I\u2019ve nev\u00ader met him, but I\u2019ve heard noth\u00ading but good things. Tim and Julie Smith in par\u00adtic\u00adu\u00adlar have giv\u00aden me very encour\u00adag\u00ading reports about him. He seems like a great addi\u00adtion to the team.<\/p>\n

Zol\u00adlie Smith was the most sur\u00adpris\u00ading elec\u00adtion. He\u2019s my new boss\u2019s boss (direc\u00adtor of US Mis\u00adsions, tak\u00ading the posi\u00adtion I expect\u00aded John Palmer to land), and I\u2019ve been hear\u00ading good things about him for years. His elec\u00adtion was a mile\u00adstone for the Assem\u00adblies of God \u2014 he\u2019s our first non-Cau\u00adcasian exec\u00adu\u00adtive offi\u00adcer. <\/p>\n

I\u2019m very excit\u00aded about the lead\u00ader\u00adship team that came out of this Gen\u00ader\u00adal Coun\u00adcil. It bodes well for our future as a move\u00adment. We picked some extreme\u00adly com\u00adpe\u00adtent peo\u00adple.<\/p>\n

Oh \u2014 and the busi\u00adness ses\u00adsions were feisty this year. If you\u2019re into that sort of thing, you might want to check them out<\/a> <\/p>\n
